1. Lightning Bolt
    Avocado
    Binaural

    Riot Act

I would place Binaural ahead of Avocado , but I don't like the studio versions as much as I love the live versions ..example being Of The Girl live in Milan blows away the studio version...and Nothing As It Seems is a monster live , better then anything on Avocado ...and I hands down prefer the 2000 tour over the 2006 tour

But Avocado is a better sounding studio album then Binaural IMO.

Binaural sounds way better live but it has Evacuation on it instead of Sad and that's enough to put it near the bottom for me. Plus I really did love The Fixer, Got Some, UK and Just Breathe before they got played to death and I still enjoy Amongst the Waves and Force of Nature.
  3. Nick, I'm home!

I'm rating all five of these albums based on the live versions of each song.

But Binaural has Of The Girl, Parting Ways, and NAIS! Those three alone put it at the top of the heap (of five) for me.

  6. But if you are rating the album itself , then shouldn't it be on the studio versions ?
  7. I suppose you are right Ed but I almost never listen to the studio version of ANY of the albums - not even the greats like Ten and Vs.
  8. I find myself listening to the first 3 studio albums and the last 3 studio albums.....but 90% of the time I listen to the live versions from PJ...same goes with DMB.
  9. Upon further reflection, I consider the songs themselves (music and lyrics) that define an album - not just the "performance" that was captured in the studio. For the reason, I feel "OK" about ranking the albums based on live performances.

I've even made "live versions" of the studio albums.
  11. Not quite the ten minutes I said it was, but pretty darn close eh?
