  5. Oh Berlin is delicious. Both lirically and musically. The only "weird" tempo U2 have ever used (7/8), which makes it really interesting for musicians - and harder to play, lol.

  8. 5/8 (or 5/4) might be even weirder than 7/8. Or maybe not, but I know more songs in 7/8 than in 5/4 I think.

    Oh, and what makes Oh Berlin that special is that it's 7/8 in the verses but switches to 4/4 for the chorus. Really extraordinary for U2.

    By the way, Drowning Man is in standard 4/4, it just has a special syncopation to it - both drums, bassline and guitars are out of sync with the vocals, which makes it sound like it has a special time signature - which it doesn't. Bono misguided a lot of people by saying it was 5/8 on U2byU2, but it isn't Count while listening... one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four... It's just that instruments and voice come in at strange beats. It's part of the immense beauty of the song.

    Anyway... way off topic indeed!

    Crazy...I haven't counted before, I will next listen (A favorite off of War). Didn't know that about Oh Berlin, that's pretty cool and very unusual, especially that it switches. Thanks for the info

    This song is the epitome of what young rock'n'roll is all about. I love it and have fond memories attached to it, but even if I hadn't, I think this song would touch me equally. It has that touch of sadness and ironic melancholy to it, it's unique. BTW the EP version is SO much better than the album one.
