1. Maybe they just go on with the 360 tour?? Same stage different songs, but with alot of time off between the legs?
  2. I find this 'album' stuff really quite astonishing! How long have some folk been following the band? They've been pulling this album nonsense for years so shouldn't be a surprise.

We are talking about 4 x 50+ year old men who are nearing the end of a 3 year world tour here - folk need to relax a bit.

    from Jupiter this time?
  6. It's make or break this time round I think for U2. I'm not sure whether they consider NLOTH a failure like Pop, but I know they were disappointed in how it translated, so essentially they don't want to do that again.

I'm all for them polishing up the material, but sometimes some songs can sound too 'polished' and too 'clean' if you know what I mean. For example, I'd like to hear a more unpolished and messier sound from the boys instrumentally, which gives it that extra feel to the song. Last 3 albums have sounded almost ridiculously over produced in some ways (while still great). I think their best work is (as they describe) when things take off by accident but without the over producing done in the studio which we have now - pefecting, tweaking, enhancing; as the song loses it's identity and gets buried within itself.
  7. Their intentions were to release "Songs of Ascent", which was supposedly 85% done, by the end of 2009.

"Songs..." was said to be a more ambient version of NLOTH. Sales for NLOTH were not as good as they'd liked.

Assumption is that they scuttled "Songs..." thinking... "...if the masses didn't 'get' NLOTH, will they understand/like/buy "Songs...".

The answer they came up with seems to be "no".

So U2 worked on some of the "Songs of Ascent" tunes after the 2009 Vancouver show. They also considered a change of direction from "Songs..." and did the more dancey stuff that we've heard stories about over the past two years. And then Bono and Edge continued to work on the "Spiderman: Turn of the Dark" soundtrack.

Spiderman has had it's problems. That took time. Issues with the project meant re-writing some of it and replacing some tunes in it. That took time and has eaten into "U2 album time".

Bono hurt his back and tour dates had to be rescheduled. This also cutting into "U2 album time"

My thoughts are, GIVE "Songs of Ascent" to U2.com members. It would be something we dont have. And you won't have to deal so much with "did it sell or not".

Then, after Moncton, take a month off to relax... followed by serious writing and recording. They have Achtung Baby remasters that should be out by November (or slightly sooner). That will buy them a bit... A BIT... of time. But by Summer 2012... it would be good for them to have an album done, single ready and a release date of not much later than October 2012.

By good, meaning time is of the essense, these days. And 3-4 year album cycles... it makes it harder and harder to get radio play, etc when you are away that long.

    Just my .02
  8. If they didn't think Songs of Ascent was good enough...which apparently they did not, at least Bono anyway...then i have no problem with them not releasing it. At this point, i'd rather have quality over quantity.
