I think our expectations of them, and probably everyone elses expectations of them are just so high that critisism is of the highest order. Y know' the bigger they are, the harder they fall'.
More to the point, their expectations from themselves are just almost impossible to reach. They aim for perfectation which they occasionally hit, and when they miss - it hurts them real bad.
The reason the next album is taking so long is that they may have to honour their promise to themselves. 2 bad albums on the run, and were done.
I do not want to get into wether NLOTH wasa bad album, because with regards to the statement above, its their opinion that counts.
Agree whole heartedly with the first post. NLOTH is the only U2 album I pretty much never listen to. It just feels a bit mixed up. It feels like a promise of an experimental album, but there are too many songs that sound like they were written for the mainstream crowd. The album in full sounds like U2 being scared of change.
I'm not even going to talk about sales, as I don't really care about them. They don't effect how I perceive the music, so there's no point in discussing how or why lady gaga sold more albums than U2 did. As I say to most people who listen to current mainstream music "I feel bad for you, the mainstream music industry is at an all time low".
That being said, this tour is perhaps one of the best tours of their career. Sure it lacks a theme and an idea (ZooTV/Pop) however they're playing songs they haven't played in decades and they seem to be changing their show up often enough (for U2 anyway) - Except for that damn remix, I'm with you on that oe, I HATE that song. I wish they would've never played it. Even the album version is bland and lame. Can't stand it.
