1. Hello there. Eager Snake here.

I think that, practically, never contribute to the forum, except with some photos of the concert in Argentina recently, but I would like to ask something if you do not mind:

I saw some videos of different live performances of Even Better and I realized that Edge is not playing live during that AMAZING song.

I think its the only song where it happens, but if someone knows a little more about his effects, I would love to help me. I felt disappointed. I can not stop listening to his guitar, is my favorite, but honestly it hurts.

They are known for being so amazing live, so, how can this happen?

I leave a video where this is particularly noticeable:

At 6:06 Edge wasn´t playing the foot pedal, even seem scared when he realizes that the effect began, and he was not playing. After that he plays different things on the guitar, even over effect O_O.

And over here, in the opening night for Even in Argentina:

At 00:53, the effect began, and then he plays over.

Its just playback? it's going to hurt and to pull down my idol .

    A big hug.

    Eager.
  2. Of course it's a playback. They just play over it. The same thing as Crazy Tonight but at least without techno.
  3. Did you mean that he does not play live only in this song, or all?
I mean, is kinda obvious in Crazy but I think that Even Better is in good shape to play live.
    Thanks for the answer.

    A big hug.

    Eager.
  4. I'm pretty sure with the effects (foot pedals for this and Mysterious Ways, for example) are done by Dallas in the Underworld because Edge sometimes goes away from his effects "pad" or whatever. I think I remember an interview on YouTube with Dallas where he explained this process and how it allows Edge to be freed up more on this tour than any other.

.... aaand play less music this tour than any other.

But I don't think that every song has playback (of course there are backtracks), I doubt that Edge's guitar is pre-recorded. But in my opinion it's not Edge playing in Even Better, Magnificent, Mysterious Ways, Zooropa and Crazy Tonight (which was obvious since the beginning)
  6. Exactly. I had seen something similar. I knew that Dallas can control Edge's effects in the Under, so this way Edge can play around without having to change the effects in "real time" as a matter of speak. To put this clean:

Edge plays live but he doesn't need to change the effects because Dallas do.

But the above is an ugly thing, isn't it?

    A big hug.

    Eager.

    Do you think so?

    A big hug.

  8. That's a guitar overdub that you hear and Edge plays over it with his own guitar, he's still playing but the same recorded track is playing under him. Just adds to the texture, no need to be worried about your idol.

    Big hug
  9. I remember when it was first played in La Plata, at the "take me higher" bit, that was backed-up and it sounded like it came from the studio version. And also, it's just an overdub as Joe said for The Edge. They have to do these things otherwise it would be solid to play live. Remember, there is only 4 of them.

But I love this new EBTTRT, it's outstanding.

Here's pro-shot footage from the best version of it so far in Denver:

  10. I said before that EBTTRT would not work as an opener.

After seeing the performances of it during the last few shows, I admit that I am totally wrong. This opener comes in and takes the stadium by storm!
  11. Just take a listen to the IEM of Edges monitor feed and you will hear
what he is really playing on it. I think it's one of the Chile shows.
He is playing over a track but the track is lower in volume. It sounds awesome
together. Most bands play with some type of track these days.

That about sums it up what you've said i think

another song like this that springs to mind is Gone... The edge plays the chords during the song but doesn't play the high pitched guitar i.e. the intro
