1. No no, If I felt that I had completed my education, I would have just left school and got a job. I'm completing this final year of school to get more qualifications then possibly to university or college or something. It's just that I'm doing Journalism and need to practise critical & discursive writing. Also needs to be practised for English at school as well. Besides, I love ranting and criticising, so it's ideal for me.

We finish primary school at 11/12 here, so it's weird you saying that you are finishing primary school soon and you are 15. High school is unbelivably demanding - the work to put in is massive. I've never worked to the limit, that's why my grades have never been perfect. But it is very exciting choosing a career path. When I found out what I wanted to do, it sounded great, and was looking forward to it. Still am.
  2. Well, our school systems are different. The last year of primary school are considered very tough by most people.

I love arguing/discussing and that kind of stuff as well.
  3. Do you have to do really important exams on the final year of primary school?

So do I. I'm currently ranting on about Fall Out Boy.
  4. We have some very important exams yes. But not as important as yours I'd think, since your school is much more centered around exams I think.

This year will determine where all of us can go for our further education. If you don't get good grades, you can't go where you want.

I'm aiming for the best grades possible. I have 18 subjects, get to take two grades off of my final points total or whatever I should call it. Maximum number of points is 320. I think it's possible for me.
  5. Yeah, everything here is mainly based around exams and what you get in your results.

Wait, you have 18 subjects? Oh my god, that's loads! I would never be able to handle that at all.

We have this system where you can easily get into the 5th year, unless you completely ruined your Standard Grade's. But, when you get into 6th year, it's all based on a points system. You need 15 points to get into 6th year & each subject and it's level represents the points. It's hard for some people, but I have bang on 15. Not that I found it difficult to get into 6th year, just because it happened to work that way.
  6. In Sweden, in the old grade system that I'm in (there's a new one now, but those in the final year of primary school gets to finish without changing system) there are basically four grades. IG=did not pass=0 points G=passed=10 points VG=well passed=15 points MVG=very well passed=20 points

Then you only count the 16 best grades, and get your total amount of points. That gives a maximum number of 320 points. Some have 17 subjects, I have 18, because I chose to learn another language.

I had 305 points at the end of the last year. Which is extremely good, since the teachers generally don't want to give the highest grade until the last year, because they don't want to have to lower a grade.
  7. Also, read an article on our education system that said that primary school, or grundskola as it's named in Swedish (basic school) is kind of a combination of what you'd call primary and secondary school. And that what comes next is kind of like what you may call upper secondary school.
  8. Aw right, I see. Sounds much more complex than our grading system. It basically goes like this - there is Standard Grade, which lasts 2 years and is basically the first proper exam period. Then it goes onto 5th year where you can do Intermediate 2 (equivalent to Standard Grade) or Higher. I'm currently in 6th year where you can do Int2, Higher or Advanced Higher. The grades you can get is A, B, C, D or FAIL. A, B & C is a pass, the rest are a fail.

    Quite simple here.
  9. I'm starting back at school on Monday, not looking forward to the work load for the final year. Our points system is you do at least 6 subjects and you take your best 6 grades and add them up. Maximum points is 600. The requirements for college courses for the people who did their exams last June were released yesterday and the points dropped for Music by 50 from 470 to 420 which is good news for me. There's an audition on top of that too. Was also looking at Journalism and Media as other options to apply for. Medicine would be the toughest course to get into, you need around 750 points for that (600 points + at least 150 out of 300 on an aptitude test).
  10. It's not that complicated. Probably just sounded complicated. We have four grades, the worst one is a fail, the second worst is passed, the second best is well passed. The best is very well passed. I can understand if these translations get confusing though. Since your system is different, you kind of lack some words that we have.

You could also call them, fail, good, very good, and Even Better Than The Real Thing (That wasn't what I was going to say originally.

It just sounds more complicated for me because I'm not used to it.
  12. Yeah, it's the same for me with your system.

Let's just say that both of us are in a decisive, final year of a part of school that will probably have effects on the rest of our lives.
