1. Indeed it was. That's the bit that amazes me, how do these people manage to stay alive so long?

Robert Palmer was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist etc - died in 2003. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Palmer_%28singer%29

Ah yes and Roy Orbison too is another one - think I told you the other day about him. His music (and his writing) is just unbelievably beautiful. I remember at that tribute show, he said (Damien Leith) about Roy - was that 'If Roy walked in here today, I would simply say thank you'. Quite moving that.
  2. Yeah, people who has done research on Sinatra's life pretty much came up with the conclusion that he was a functioning alcoholic. He also smoked heavily.
  3. I remember a few years ago now listening to so much Sinatra and thinking 'This guy is amazing.' And he was, and he is.
  4. Yeah, he's amazing. Best listened to when staying up a little to late at night, he's just magic then.

If you listen to him through the years, his voice degrading is very noticeable though. That's what smoking does to you, and alcohol combined with singing.
  5. I've heard a little bit of Roy Orbison, at least She's A Mystery To Me, that's one hell of a job on the lyrics by our very own B-man!
  6. Older age too does that to you as well. Noticed it only too often.

You gotta try and get some Roy, one of the best-of collections, usually have the standards.

It does, but not in the way it did to Frankie.

Yeah, I intend to if I stumble upon something. I wonder if mom or dad may have a vinyl with him...
  8. Surely these singers must think if it's gonna damage their voice, they wouldn't go as hard as they do on the smoking and drinking. No wonder so many heavy metal singers have lost what makes their voices awesome e.g. Ozzy Osbourne for one. Oddly though he's difficult to understand at times, but when he sings, it sounds amazing - like you wouldn't believe it's the same guy.
  9. Well, both smoking and alcohol is addictive you know And back in the days, people didn't know smoking was dangerous.
  10. Absolutely, but they sure as hell know about it when they get to an older age.

I gotta be heading off, gonna grab some early sleep (only 12.50am here now!) 'cos I gotta be up bright and early tomorrow. I will talk to you later - and I'll grab some DVDs on the way home too.
  11. To answer a question you asked in a PM: I think TDK discs work the best in my DVD player.
  12. Ah right, I'll grab some TDKs then, they're usually the ones I use anyway.
