Can't believe that U2.com has found a way to screw something up that looked like it would be the perfect 2 cd set.

I know that some people are saying that they like it, but since there seems to be a fair number that say they don't like it also, I'd say that they got "it" wrong on this version of the track. Once the debate over which songs were to be included on U22, it should have been easy to pick versions that all people would agree were the best performances of those songs. Why go with an obscure performance of the song. This quote "Not only the proper trumpet playing is a bit off, it's just that the thing DOESN'T FIT the song" to me says it all.
  2. Let's be fair here, people.

Unless they decide to release ISHWILF as a download so we can hear the track in full, we won't know truly how it sounds until we get the CD. So let's stop judging the track like we've heard it a million times cause we haven't.
  3. surely it's nice to have a recording of Adam getting to play with a true jazzman. I like what I hear in that vid and it's a nicely shot piece like all the recent pieces they've shown on their site. at the very least, the whole buzz about U22 is good for fan morale. it's good that U2 are challenging fans with some changes to the live versions of songs. besides there are plenty of officially released live versions of ISHFWILF; R&H, Point, Paris and U2.communication.

But the point of U22 was to have a representation of what was being performed on the 360 tour. It doesn't matter if we've had plenty of officially released live versions of ISHFWILF. People voted for songs based on what was being done with the song on this tour, not a "one-off" of the song on this tour
  5. It's the same argument used against having 40 in the tracklisting. Why put it in there if it was only played once? Why use the stupid shitty trumpet-included track when it was only done once? What a STUPID decision.
  6. i disagree. each subscriber had a vote and their own individual reasons for picking the songs they picked. when I voted I wasn't necessarily voting for a 360 artifact, but rather live versions of great tracks, like All I Want - love rescue me, the band put that up for voting and it wasn't a staple of the set list over the full tour. there were no rules that said that the cd release had to be an accurate representation of the tour, if there were we would have to have crazy remix.
  7. Overall, I think I will be happy with U22. I do have a bit of anger out of them putting a limit on how many songs, when it should have been at least 75 minutes per cd. That way, songs like Electical Storm would've fit. I like the trumpet on ISHFWILF, but it probably doesn't fit well for the average fan, so I'd probably rather just have a regular version. Breathe would've been nice, but at least we have that in soundboard quality on a single.

Considering it wasn't another lame cd of remixes we already have most of, I'm overjoyed that we at least had some input.

Actually, the argument against putting 40 in the tracklisting wasn't that it was a one-shot deal. It was that the performance was not up to par. If the song is played well, I don't mind if it's only played once. Hence, why I don't think it is fair to judge the track without having actually heard the whole thing.

I mean, if U2.com decided to release a U22 equivalent for the Vertigo Tour, you better believe that I would be asking them to use One from MSG featuring Mary J. Blige. It doesn't matter if it was a one-time occurance if it led to the best performance of the song on the entire tour.

it's easily their best fanclub cd. might even go so far as to exorcise the ghost of Duals
  10. Great brass piece in opinion, just the shame that Hugh Masekela was listening to a completely different song to the one the band were playing. It doens't sound too bad when he first comes on stage, then he just goes on a mission. There's nothing wrong with inviting a South African trumpeteer onto the stage to play in South Africa, but the two pieces of music don't fit together. Simple as that.

I guess U2 just wanted to document the notable occasion for themselves, him and the South African fans who went to the show.
