    If the original source was mp3, then it's best to just stay where you are in my opinion. Since lossless is the ultimate source, once you start coming down from there, you can't go back.

    Yep, it's a time waste. As Tim said, once you degrade the lossless, you can't go back there. If your source (or some of your source) was lossy, re-encoding it to lossless makes no sense as the quality loss is already there. Don't waste the time, Matt BTW, I listened to some of the compilation before and it's fantastic, the transitions are fine and you chose some good versions there. Well done. U2.COM is going to have a tough time beating you

    In the future, I'll start working with lossless files...maybe even do a redo of this particular version (but I'd have to start from scratch!)

    The main reason (like many others, I suppose) that I use mp3-versions is that my aging computer and ipod can hold all these lossless files. Also, half the time I am listening to music, I have only one head phone in (gotta listen to colleagues at work, listen for my kids, etc.) so I don't often get the full audio experience.

  7. Sorry to take this thread even further off topic...

    I have mixes for the Elevation and Vertigo Tours. Unfortunately, they are essentially comprised of the Slane/Boston (Elevation Tour) and Chicago/Milan (Vertigo Tour) audio rips so sharing here is an issue. However, it there is interest (and there is no chance I'll go to jail for sharing them - I'm afraid of Mr. McG), let me know.

    Actually, I'm a 'lossy type of guy' as well, exactly for the reasons you stated.
