1. Ufire sounded great on this tour. Musically superior to anything from years past.
The problem with the song in 2009 was Bono not sining it correct. I think in Pasadena DVD
he sang "come on take me home , home again" but most of the time he rewrote certain parts on the fly.
But you listen to the band on a IEM and you will hear a tight rhythm section and Edge sounds great
on guitar parts, especially on the bridge section.

I believe the main policy regarding U2start is that they cannot have downloads to songs taken from official releases. That most likely means anything from the Pasadena DVD is not allowed. But I was looking at the stuff you've gathered and I noticed something... Vertigo Acoustic? That sounds very interesting.

I understand the official stuff. For it being on youtube also though I hope it lands in a grey area. But if not, that's fine. If they have to delete it. I can always do an upload minus whatever doesn't float. Don't want to cause any waves.. Vertigp acoustic comes from Islands 50th anniversary party in 2009 at Bush Shepard.

    Personally thought UF sounded great this tour. Bono forgetting the lyrics in Pasadena with singing "stay in the song" a lot, instead of these album lyrics;

    Stay in this time
    Stay tonight in a lie
    I'm only asking but I
    I think you know
    Come on take me away
    Come on take me away
    Come on take me home
    Home again

  5. I love the recording of EBTTRT from Mexico. For the 3 US shows I went to in 2011, it was probably best in Miami, close in Nashville, and still pretty good in Baltimore. Bono's vocal is not epic in any of the 10 or so versions I've heard, but it's just in how he's singing it. For all the bitching I did about losing Breathe, at least the opener was a great song. Stingray is nice, but just not an opener in my view.

The excitement I felt in Nashville was almost what I felt in Raleigh in 2009, or Tampa in 1987. Nashville as a whole was incredible. The best thing about U2, is that I've seen them 10 times in person, and all 10 shows were epic. In contrast, Prince is by far my favorite act. I like Prince 5 times as much or more than I like U2. I've seen Prince 45 times. 10 times were better than any U2 could ever be, 10 were about as good, but around 25 were Prince in diva mode going through the motions. The prince.org people totally crap on me for this viewpoint, but it is simply my opinion. Prince always has a few world class musicans in his band, but he always has a few obvious weak links who can barely play better than your local bar band.

For the few dumb things U2.com have done, if any of you U2 fans out there had experience with Prince's website crimes against fans, you'd be worshiping your copy of Duals like it was the Holy Grail. Of course, Prince is an extremist, and had the greatest perks of any website in music, until he lost it, and ripped us off.

What is the point of this post? I don't know, I think I like the new pair of shoes I have, and I am happy that U2 had such an epic tour, and am happy that U22 had most of what I wanted, and didn't have I"ll Go Crazy Remix, but that is a story I've told, which a few of you seem to enjoy reminding me.

Agreed. EBTTRT was an epic intro in a way. Here's a story. When the album came out, us subs at u2.com were predicting the opening song. While most wanted or thought it would be Magnificent or Boots, I thought Breathe would be the choice. I got ssoo flamed for it and look what happened. It was my second fave off the album, such a great song. Larry starting off every show was great. Never saw Stingray live but it comes across flat except for the first few shows with Bono dancing about and showing fans he's rebuilt by German technology.
  8. I'm going to be honest and say that Breathe did not work for me as an opener at all.

I mean, you've assembled this amazing band, this massive structure with a massive audience in a massive space and you start out with Breathe...
Breathe is a great song, make no mistake about it, but when you've got all these amazing aspects of The Claw at your disposal, Breathe is an extremely underwhelming way to open a show. To be quite honest, I thought they would use Boots as the opener because I think it's the best show opener they've got on the album. It's fast, high energy, high capacity for a great light show, everything that works as a tried and true method to open a show.

But I'm very glad they brought on EBTTRT to open the show. I mean, you've got to have some songs to carry on the energy after Streets (Anaheim 2 FTW).
  9. I like Breathe but Boots (the then single) or No Line on the Horizon would have been the better of the two. I LOVED the return of the AB songs but it was a shame they broke their streak of opening with a song from an album they were promoting. Heck, they didn't give up on Mofo and the stadiums were half-empty in some places in 1997. I guess one could argue that by 2010 they were no longer trying to sell NLOTH.

If you never saw Stingray live, it's still a good watch on You Tube. It's still fun as an opener, but not as epic as Breathe, or EBTTRT...the segue into Beautiful Day probably could've been better, but I'm a rare U2 fan who only likes Beautiful Day...I know it's a great song, I just don't hold it as high as most do.

It definitely bothered me throughout 2010, but once they started playing that Real Thing remix, I didn't even care anymore. I'm not fond of NLOTH at all so I was all for hearing a killer quartet of AB opening the show rather than a few NLOTH songs. But I still maintain that one of NLOTH's failures was that the band themselves didn't support it a year after it came out. They basically said "this tour isn't in promotion for the album, and the album was somewhat of a disappointment, it didn't do what we wanted it to and looking back we could've done better". I agree with that, but still, not the best way to promote an album. But I guess by that point it did what it could.

It was the same with John Mayer's last album, Battle Studies. Even as he was makign the late night talk show rounds, he would be saying "I know Continuum is my best album, and this one isn't, it's just something different". To me, even if that may be true, it's just good marketing and promotion to say "it's my best album to date". Maybe once the promotion for it is over you can "say what you mean to say", but until then, promote the best you can.
