I would go for this 5 lines, it seems just right:

If click, you might as well open the complete profile. I doubt if it would be useful anyways.

I will try some different triggers, hover and click. Can also be on avatar.

I am working on the feature now. But it may take quite some time to go live, since I am working on the uber secret new version of u2start which will come out when the album is out, out of spite

What about a small clickable/"hoverable" box like facebook's?

Yes, I thought of that as well.

The "hover nightmare" I spoke about would happen only if the whole avatar or, in a lesser extent the username, brought up a huge box each time they were travelled over by the mouse. If the "hoverable" zone is small that woulnd't be a big problem.

Better to use click anyway since the information will be loaded on request. So it will take about 100 ms to show.
