Best album openers of all time.

My ten greatest openers would be this, in no particular order:

    Streets-U2, The Joshua Tree
Like a Rolling Stone- Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited
Thunder Road-Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run
Gimme Shelter-The Rolling Stones, Let It Bleed
    London Calling-The Clash, London Calling
Everything in Its Right Place-Radiohead, Kid A
    Baba O'Riley-The Who, Who's Next
Black Dog-Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin IV
    What's Going On-Marvin Gaye, What's Going On
Wouldn't It Be Nice-The Beach Boys, Pet Sounds

And for good measure, my opinion of the greatest closers:

Ambulance Blues-Neil Young, On the Beach
A Day in the Life-The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's
    Jungleland-Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run
All I Want Is You-U2, Rattle and Hum
    Street Spirit-Radiohead, The Bends
Desolation Row-Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisisted
Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End-The Beatles, Abbey Road
    Something in the Way-Nirvana, Nevermind
    Release-Pearl Jam, Ten
When the Levees Break-Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin IV
  2. Additional openers:
Smells Like Teen Spirit (maybe too obvious), Go (PJ's Vs) and Rock N Roll Star (Oasis's Definitely Maybe)

    Additional closers:
Love is Blindness, Indifference (PJ's Vs), and Champagne Supernova (Oasis's WTSMG)
  3. I actually thought about all six of those songs, all would be worthy of inclusion, plus others (Purple Haze, Airbag, Sympathy for the Devil, Welcome to the Jungle for openers; Tomorrow Never Knows, The End (Doors) for closers. But these are tough lists. Release and Indifference were a toss up for me. Indifference is still new to me, but I think overtime, I might enjoy it more. Both are great songs though.

Now that I think about it, The Band's I Shall Be Released from Music from Big Pink definitely should have been included on the closers list. I knew I would forget something. I have no idea what to take off though.
  4. Oh, boy. How the heck did I forget about "Airbag?!!?!?!"

I probably should at least mention Planet Telex, Everything in its Right Place, and 2+2=5 for good/safe measure.
  5. Yes I had to get a least one Radiohead song. Airbag and EIIRP was also a toss up for me, but purely as an album opener, I think Everything is the best. But if I had to pick which song is better in its own right, I'd go with Airbag. I hope that makes sense. Also, 2+2=5 is just awesome as an opener. They just build the intensity in a song better than anyone, and that song is one where they do it the best.

I'll probably wake up tomorrow and think about several others I could have and should have included.
  6. So, Ten by Pearl jam. I gave it a listen, I tried to find a melodic part, some harmony, which I always do listening to U2 and Coldplay, and I found alcohol a lot of noise!!! but hey, it was a great way to kill boredom at work today

    Lmao, that'll cause a storm.
  8. U2 and Pearl Jam music arent really close, so I can understand it. And Coldplay is just the first 2 albums were good but after that they just got really boring.
  9. Bart. Stil jij. Coldplay is awesome.
  10. Let's compare Pearl Jam and Green Day, a lot of noise in both. I'd go with Green Day....yet
  11. Pearl Jam are way better than Green Day. If I was asked who was better about 3 months ago, I would've said Green Day. I love both bands but PJ are just too good.
