    Sales figures have been so watered down since the digital format, it's hard to say. Technically, itunes paid for the record to give it away, so you might say that those who downloaded could/should (and for all I know, may have) count as sales. And then there are still smaller mom & pop outlets that don't report to soundscan, so you don't know how many units are being lost out there... In time, it'll hit platinum and that will be all that matters.
    Yeah well I hope it hits platinum like it deserves. Too good an album to be there lowest on sales. Will be interesting to see SOE sales figures, obviously depends on how they release that as well but I'd like to see it going number 1 at least.

    #1 is another one of those things that doesn't hold the same weight it once did, either...
  4. True but I still think it's cool to be able to say our band is number 1 again. Ultimately though as long as I enjoy it, chart position isn't that important just an added bonus. Achtung baby never even got #1 due to strong competition (Michael Jackson was it?) yet zooropa was one of there lowest selling albums and did achieve number 1. I love both btw but prefer Achtung baby as do most of us I believe.

  6. You must have better taste over there. In fairness it hit #1 just about everywhere except the UK where it got to #2. I still think it sold well though, will need to have a look and see what beat it but I'm sure it was Michael Jackson which would make sense as he's one of the highest selling artists in the world. Wonder what zooropa beat to claim top spot.

    Well, in fairness... ATYCLB only hit #3 here and #1 most everywhere else... but it won 7 Grammys. I'll take those babies over #1 any day!

    Yeah seeing u2 win at the Grammys is very impressive also. It is quite an interesting thing to look into in general the difference between u2 success in the US and UK charts, singles as well give a great pointer to the differences between the two.
  10. I guess that's partly but not completely down to population as you'd expect an album that was received well in both the US and UK to sell more in the states. I was just looking through the singles chart history and its crazy how relatively unsuccessful they've been in the US. Then there's baffling things like ISHFWILF and WOWY reaching #1 in the US when they only reached 6 and 4 in the UK then Streets reached 4 in the uk only making 13 in the US. Bizarre but then I don't know how sales figures stack up to compared to chart positions.
