1. Hey guys,

I need a little assistance and I am hoping that some of you will be interested in this.

I'm currently sitting in my final year of school. University is coming up for me (had no offers yet), and I'm hoping to study Journalism. In my personal statement, I put that I own a blog and contribute to it every so often. I haven't written an article on it for a long time and also, the idea of it was me ranting and it sounded a bit boring in the end, so I decided to scrap it. I've created a new blog with a new concept - it's called Free Opinion. The whole idea of this is that I gather people up to write stuff for the blog so people who read it can experience different opinions on matters. You can write about anything: sport, music, politics, ranting on things, your experiences, television, movies. Anything. As long as it goes around the concept of a proper article. This leads me to saying that I am wanting people to help write articles for the blog. I'm hoping to make this blog rather successful. I'll be wanting people to try and promote the blog via twitter or any other servies throughout the internet. I know a few people here that may want to try it out. This would be a great thing for the universities I'm applying for to see. It also shows that I'm willing and determined for the Journalism course. I'm open to anyone who wants to do it. Feel free to contact me or post here to ask questions or express interest. If you say that you want to it, I'll contact you with questions and details!

    Thanks!

Sounds good, would be interested to see how you separate your conent though. My thoughts of a blog are sequential posts that don't necessarily run the same subject. If someone submitted an articl regarding politics, and then four people wrote about different aspects of sport, how would you/the user compare the opinions regarding a singular matter?

As for the Journalism course, I'm sure something like this would stand you in good stead. Some people I used to go school with are currently on journalism courses and have blogs/podcasts running so it's certainly relevant. I'd be interestedin contributing here and there though.

Good question. I'm pretty sure Tumblr has a setting where you can arrange stuff into certain topics. I know Blogspot has that feature. I kind of want it to be like what 'Comment is Free' is like on the Guardian website, although they don't really arrange their stuff. I could also arrange it into writers as well as topics, so people can read articles from the writer they may prefer.

That's good Tim, good to have you aboard. I'm trying to get a good amount of people so the flow of articles being released is regular. What subject(s) would you be particularly interested in?

    Also, happy birthday!
  4. I enjoy low-key birthdays, thanks. Not sure why my birthday is in my profile, how do I delete it

I'd be interested in sport (football/F1), some music, TV/film - anything really, except politics.
  5. I knew sport would be one as it's your speciality Politics is going to be difficult, as it's not most people's cup of tea.
  6. I sure do enjoy sport.
  7. Kieran, I'm surely interested on it, and I remember about your last blog - it looked good enough to me, rants are ok Anyway, your new idea sounds good as well, I'd be willing to write there -if you want me to - and of course to promote it among my Facebook and Twitter friends.

PS. Tim, my best friend was born on Jan 15th 1990 too. Happy birthday
  8. Good idea Kieran! I'd be willing to help out every now and then too!

The last blog was just boring really. I thought that no one would really be that interested in it. The articles were mediocre as well. Although, I wouldn't mind taking a couple of the good articles, changing them a bit and posting them to the blog. Thanks for declaring your interest! You too Olof!

Question to you and Olof: what subject(s) would you write about?
  10. Mainly Art, mostly music for me. Literature and films too. Philosophy and relationships might be interesting too, I have plenty of material already on those topics. I'll leave the sports to more experienced people like yourself or Tim I could also do a kind of foreign-interpretation of the UK/world politics, unless you're deliberately and definitely avoiding politics in your blog
  11. Nah, politics/international relations will not be avoided. It's usually a key part to opinion articles, like it's the cream in the middle of a sponge cake - if it isn't there, then it's pretty bland. Politics gets people properly debating, and can usually get a bit heated. Let's hope Tumblr has a comments part to it so that people can start debating. Same with music, people get annoyed when someone has an opinion on an artist or an album. That usually comes down to taste but that can get people debating. Usually all topics can get people debating but I'd say politics, music and sport are a priority towards debates.

What will happen with the articles is probably a question that will be asked too. If you have a finished article, you then give to me (preferably through PM), and then I post it onto the blog. I will include your full name at the bottom of the article or on the title - that's undecided yet. The reason for this is that I can't give numerous people the password for it, as it will become completely manic. It would be great if Tumblr had the setting of people can become a user of the blog and they can post it onto the blog, but that can't happen unfortunately.

Also, when creating an article, please add a title to it. Something jazzy related to it.

EDIT: When more articles are added, we'll then start advertising it onto social networks. I'm going to advertise it on The Guardian and several other sites like that. But I'm going to do it in a sly way. I may start a Twitter feed to tell people that a new article has been added, but that's only going to be when I feel it's getting used a lot.
  12. I could write about music and that stuff I guess, and of course politics. May want to write under a pseudonym though.
