Owning a car is damn expensive - and many of us "overuse" our cars. Wait as long as you possibly can to buy one - but I do recommend you get a licence, if possible. That said, I didn't get mine until I was almost 23 and I've always lived in Canadian suburbia, where public transit systems generally stink.
IMO
