I think today is also known as Shrove Tuesday too, and then, as you said, Ash Wednesday is tomorrow. According to Wikipedia, it's for Western Christianity.
It's a very light delicious bread with the top cut off. The bottom part of the bread has been scooped out to make room for almond paste... on top of that almond paste there's creme. On top of the bread there's some confectioner's sugar.
