I like it a lot. Sometimes I wish I had a dynamic microphone as well though. Having a condenser can get REALLY annoying when there's someone else in the building making sounds, because they're so very sensitive. Be prepared to have some issues with unwanted sound on your recordings. I think I may get a Shure SM58 some time.

If you have an Apple computer... Logic is VERY nice I think.

    I actually don't have an apple I have a windows-based computer.

I have a shure SM57 too, it's what I usually record my guitar amp with and stuff. I think the AT2020 will work well enough, we plan on recording in my basement when no one else is around, so hopefully it'll be fine. But you're right, with everything comes a few problems that always need work arounds! We're ready for anything though!

Then I hope your computer is reliable. You don't want computer problems to ruin your recordings. A crash would be catastrophic.

The basement should be good! You've gotta watch yourselves too. Very small movements sometimes gets picked up. And if you wanna record vocals as the same time as you're playing guitar or something... you're totally screwed with a condenser That's another reason why I want a dynamic mic as well.

Good luck with the album, it's very hard to actually get something together. I've tried. I imagine it's a big help to have someone there to kick your ass though.
  3. Can you come over and fix mine? Or are you only married to your own? lol
  4. As if Apple computers are honestly more reliable than a Windows system
  5. Times my roommate's Apple computer has been sent in for a repair: 2
Times my Dell has been sent in for a repair: 0

For every file he downloads I probably download 10, and for every website he visits I probably visit 20. My computer is far more susceptible to malware than his with the way I use the internet, and his machine and OS has failed him twice. Hard drive even wiped the first time.
  6. The durability of the actual physical casing is something I admire about Apple, though. Otherwise it's an unfortunately widely believed rumor that Apple products don't get viruses. Biggest eye roll of the new millenium.

I could do another comparison between the PC we had and the Apples we have now. But that wouldn't even be fun.

Why do you think professional studios and musicians seem to like Apple so much?
  8. It's got a far more accessible platform to record and produce with. I have no quarrel with people's preference of OS, and I think Apple's reaches the average musician easier. Nothing wrong with that.

Though remember when making music required talent, and now all you honestly need is a Mac? Yeah me too.

I don't agree at all with that. Talent is still the most important thing. Maybe an Apple can help talent bloom though. But really, you don't need a computer to make music.
  10. You're not seeing my point, let me be more clear.

Talent is still the most important thing. Apple IS helping talent boom. And of course you don't need a computer to make music.

But...talent is not the only important thing anymore. The access to easy production etc. is what helps shitty music of this generation thrive. And you don't need a computer to make great music- and there's still plenty of music around that doesn't (along with great music that DOES). But when you streamline the ease of such a process, though it does make it easier for the actual talent to thrive, it automatically makes it easier to be used by those without the talent.

I'm not in any way saying Apple is somehow responsible for bad music- I'm just saying the technological advancements that Apple acts as such a great platform for have made it clear that anyone with access to the software can make something that sounds like it could get a record deal. The argument is moreso that "discovery" is not what it used to be.
