1. What are the requiremnts in your country? Here most departments require you to be 21, and favor applicants with at least a 2 year degree. Good driving record, no major criminal charges, good employment, and credit history's are also helpful. Also, oviously its a good idea to be in good shape.

  2. Your country has a rather low crime rate though if I recall and the crimes you do have tend to not be as violent.
  3. WAs it in Britain cops where only tested for fitness when they joined, and then grew really fat? i think there was a spot on the news here about that. Things were going to change.

Yes, we have a pretty low crime rate, yes. Something is done right here I'd say.

I'll quote from the Home Office website:

As you might imagine, applicant guidelines are fairly comprehensive, but here are a few highlights:

    ■ There are no minimum or maximum height requirements
    ■ There is no formal educational requirement, but you will have to pass written tests
    ■ You must be either a British Citizen, a citizen of the EU or other states in the EEA, or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with indefinite leave to remain in the UK
    ■ Although you may still be eligible to join the police service if you have minor convictions/cautions, there are certain offences and conditions that will make you ineligible. If you are at all unsure, contact your chosen force for more information
    ■ You must physically and mentally be able to undertake police duties

One of the most rigorous elements of our screening process is the physical fitness training. Because our officers must be able to move quickly while carrying a lot of heavy equipment, they have to be in pretty good shape.

If you pass the assessment process, you will then have to take a physical fitness test.

    Age requirement is 18+
  5. That is true
  6. Fat cops annoy me. The local city police here where I live seem to have to real physical requirement.

The state and county guys tend to be in decent shape.

The age requirement here comes from the fact that our cops carry guns, and in most states you have to be 21 to do that.
  7. I agree. Police should be fit.
  8. Officers are in good shape here too, Olof. Are you sure you weren't watching something from 1970? I certainly wouldn't mess with the guys (and girls) I see patrolling the streets.

Oh yeah, everything is perfect in Sweden.

    Actually Tim: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2115335/Fat-cop-crackdown-Police-officers-unfit-beat-face-pay-cut--later-retirement-looms-current-head.html

Kieran: I wish it was. But it's not. I think a lot is good though, is there anything wrong with that? Because a lot of things agree with me, but sure it's not perfect. I'd say the UK is a very good country too.
  11. Nothing is wrong with it, I just notice that you seem to highlight Sweden's good points a lot; and it was basically me being sarcastic about it too.

Not all police officers are slim, some are fat. Of course some are going to be. That link you posted Olof shows the picture of the two fat police officers - that's not real police officers. Honestly, some of the police here are proper tanks. A guy comes to our school occasionally to talk about the usual drugs and alcohol and he's bald, plus he has massive arms. I wouldn't mess with him. He's practicually Bruce Willis.
  12. I never thought I'd see the Daily Fail mentioned on here. Surprised the headline doesn't say that Fat Cops Kill Children.

I live between two forces and often see a third force helping out with the football. Have yet to see a fat officer. Although that article does only mention Metropolitan Police so, since I don't live in London...
