1. Genuinely in love with this song right now. Everyone has heard 'You Oughta Know' at one point - intentionally or unintentionally.

  2. Huh?

I mean that your explanation seems pretty much impossible to me. A string will never go up in pitch; it can stay the same while the others go down in pitch, yes, but that only leads you to think it's gone up (when comparing it to the others). And the effect that neck bending has over pitch is much, much smaller than the string loosening effect.
  3. Well... it has gone up in pitch.
  4. Yep, Kieran Alanis has some killer songs I have always adored Ironic, and will always do. It's ironic, because it isn't even her best song... But it just gets me. The last verses "It's like 10 thousand spoons when all you need is a knife / It's meeting the man of my dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife" really touch me

Apparently the situation she sings about isn't even ironic, but it's ironic because it isn't? Weird. I read it on YouTube, so it could be slightly incorrect.

Have you listened to the Jagged Little Pill album?

  6. Yeah, and get that walrus-looking bastard to investigate it thoroughly.

  7. Maybe neck bend is more of an issue with a ukulele since the neck is not as robust as it is on a guitar. And the strings are tuned to a higher pitch.

  8. Nothing wrong with getting information from potatoes. I heard they are an intellictual form of reliable information.

  9. And Tim comes back to the conversation with a

Sure I have. Jagged little great album pill

Yeah, I had read that too, long time ago. Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironic_(song) ) says:

Although the lyrics present several situations which are said to be "ironic", it has been noted by some commentators, including comedians and satirists, that these situations were not truly ironic, earning critiques and parodies as well as corrections to make the situations actually "ironic".

    and

The song's usage of the word "ironic" attracted media attention for an improper application of the term, because according to Jon Pareles of The New York Times, the song gives a distinct "unironic" sense in its implications.[5][6] According to the Oxford English Dictionary "irony" is "a figure of speech in which the intended meaning is the opposite of that expressed by the words used".[7] Thus, lyrics such as "It's like rain on your wedding day" and "A traffic jam when you're already late" are not ironic, but they fall into a "cosmic irony".[8] Morissette commented about the writing of the song: "For me the great debate on whether what I was saying in 'Ironic' was ironic wasn't a traumatic debate. I'd always embraced the fact that every once in a while I'd be the malapropism queen. And when Glen and I were writing it, we definitely were not doggedly making sure that everything was technically ironic".[8]

So yeah, that "cosmic irony" is what's it about.
