  4. I went to Dominican Republic in 2006 and suffered jetlag for 2 or 3 good days, like Kirsten. No no not nice. Glad you didn't suffer it And crossing fingers for you too


    Anyway, you do know the solution for jet-lag, don't you?

  7. I haven't travelled anywhere to suffer jetlag, but Wikipedia says:

    The first scenario is equivalent to staying up all night and going to bed at 6 a.m. the next day—8 hours later than usual. But the second scenario (eastward) is equivalent to staying up all night and going to bed at 2 p.m. the next day—14 hours after the time one would otherwise have gone to bed.

    Now, I suffer from travel sickness (not nice) - but only seem to do it within the first few hours of waking up, so when we flew to Menorca, I thought I'd just not risk going to bed, waking up at 3am to leave at 7am. Particularly as a first time flyer. So, I stayed up all night. Woke up at 10am on Thursday and went to bed around 1am on Saturday. Flew out at 7am Friday. Didn't really bother me at all, I get to a point when I get really tired, but then I soon wake up. So, I think I might be alright with the jetlag lark.

    All four times that I've flown, I've not slept that night before and gone to bed at a normal time for me after landing. I could easily do that "14 hours after the time one would otherwise have gone to bed".

    I have a feeling that I may get jetlag this time because I arrive back in Edinburgh at 8am and I leave Florida at 3pm their time. So it's pretty much a full day of travelling.

    Tim, I suffer from travel sickness - particuarly on boats and sometimes cars. It can occur on trains and buses too though. Planes, I'm usually alright with. Although, I have problems when I fly: I can't sleep and I can't eat. I don't know why that is. When I do sleep, I only sleep for 20 minutes then I can't get back to sleep again. It's because the travel sickness pills make me drowsy.
  9. I gave up on travel sickness pills, probably because I had them when I was younger and they were supposed to be strawberry flavour ones that you chew. Made me feel worse.

    I suffer mainly in cars and buses/coaches. I'm happy to be sick in someone's car, or out of the window if I'm quick, but I will absolutely not risk it on public transport. I felt sick on an early train once, but we hit a signal failure and were sitting on the tracks for 20 minutes, so it subsided. But I was definitely ready to go to the toilet

    And I assumed it would carry over to planes, so just took the 'safer' option for me and didn't go to sleep. I don't know why it only occurs in the first 3-4 hours after sleeping. But I'd rather be safe than covered in sick.

  12. Although, that was pretty much the same situation the last time I went to America and I never got jetlag... You never know, could happen this time. Going for the hat-trick this time!

    Ah, I had similar travel sickness tablets which made me feel sick as soon as I took them, then made me feel terrible later on. Even the thought of them make me feel a little sick.
