  2. This is so fantastic. The thought of anyone experiencing this for the first time brings me great joy! My stupid 4th grade classmates spoiled that for me 30+ years ago before I even saw it. I didn't believe it though until I saw Empire for myself. Enjoy the ride

Anyway, nice that you're liking the saga...

I've just read the "Before the Awakening" book, which is what happens to Finn, Rey and Poe right before Episode VII and it was worthy, specially Finn's story adds a lot to the movie, Rey's and Poe's don't really bring new pieces of the puzzle, but Finn's really interesting.

"Before the Awakening" book spoilers ahead (and movie spoilers too, obviously):
    Spoiler (click to toggle)

I know the text is way too long, but in case you don't want to read the whole book here's some highlights:

1- Finn's personality in the movie doesn't match 100% with FN-2187's personality in the book.
Imho FN-2187 was too serious and introvert to be joking around.

2 - FN-2187 was the best cadet of his class. Probably the best soldier in years. Captain Phasma and other officers could see that he had the potential to quickly climb up the ranks in the army.
He excelled in everything, one on one, technique, tactics, shooting accuracy -ok, now this sounds like FIFA stats, but it's true.
This is not the feeling you get from the movie when you see him joking and saying that he worked in the base just as maintenance... off course he was maintenance, he was just a cadet that had been promoted to stormtrooper barely a couple of days before, but that doesn't mean that he was a chump.

3 - FN-2187 had 3 team mates, but he was clearly the leader of them.
FN-2000 (called "Zeroes"), FN-2199 (called "Nines" -ok, they weren't really creative when it came to name calling), and FN-2003 (called "Slip"). 2187 didn't get a nickname, because nobody dared to give him a nickname because nobody messed with him.
This means that he really didn't had any friends. He was an outsider all the time. Nobody really connected emotionally with him. He had everyone's respect but no one's friendship. Until Poe decided to give him a name "Finn" and call him friend. And then there was Rey.

4 - Nines and Zeroes were good soldiers, but Slip sucked. Like really really sucked. 2187 had to save Slip's ass way too many times in training and he really felt sympathy for the guy. Everybody kept telling him that he should leave Slip behind but he refused because they were a team and they were all together. He tried to help Slip as much as he could but he knew that probably he wouldn't be able to survive one single day once they were in a real battle.

4.1 - That caused him a lot of problems with Captain Phasma, who saw this sympathy as a clear weakness in 2187. Which was a pity, since he was the best soldier but if he couldn't fix that defect he'd be useless.

4.2 - Not mentioned in the movie, but this heavily implies that Slip is the stormtrooper who gets killed in Jakku and paints his bloody hand in 2187's helmet.

4.3 - 2187 constantly mentioned to their team mates that they were all together and they shouldn't leave anyone behind... they (Zeroes and Nines) should've been hurt a lot more on a different/personal level when he decided to become a traitor.

5 - There's a scene in the book when they're training one on one combat, and Nines *almost* managed to defeat 2187... Nines fought with anger ("like if it was a real battle") and he was really close to win. In the end 2187 won, but it was a close call.
There's that now famous "traitor!" scene in the movie... that sounded a lot like the training scene narrated in the book, only with Nines actually winning.
(Also, it's mentioned that some of the weapons they were using were capable of stand against a lightsabre, with 2187 pointed out that they were not likely to face someone with a lightsabre...)

6 - At the end of the book, when they're promoted as Stormtroopers, FN2187 is incapable of killing a couple of innocent individuals, and then when he runs one last battle simulation he realizes that he won't be able to actually kill any civilians. At that moment he realizes that he can't be a stormtrooper. That's right before being sent to Jakku to the beginning of the movie.
Additionally, Phasma was secretly watching him, and he saw that too (that he wasn't capable of killing civilians), and she also decided that FN2187 was done as a stormtrooper, Jakku was going to be his first and last mission...

Wow, that's really cool, though the names need work. Finn is very cool, I liked him a lot as a character, he was my favorite in the new movie. And did anyone see Amazon's leak about his ancestry?

On a completely random note, does anyone play Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes on Android/IOS? It's quite fun

To be completely honest: I've heard the quote several times before "I am your father". It's the first thing everyone says when talking about Star Wars. But I never really understood what it meant. Well, that it meant the uber bad guy was the father of the uber good guy. If you look at that scene alone, it's more like Darth Vader killing a pathetic little kid.

Btw, still only watched IV and V, but Yoda seemed silly... (Yes I've heard I shouldn't say this)

Funny enough, someone named Pato added me today as a friend

  7. Spoiler (click to toggle)
I was right! A little bit
  8. Have you watched Episode 7 Glenn?
  9. Yes, tuesday. But on accident, wanted to see The H8teful Eight
Kinda regret it, not having seen VI, I, II, III
  10. What did you think of it?
  11. Liked the way of filming, but the story is kinda IV and V all over again no...?
A very powerful new Jedi suddenly arises on a dusty planet and takes it on against the Empire. A huge kinda-planet-that-destroys-planets has one major flaw and gets destroyed by planes after a chain reaction. Father-son moment on a bridge/platform over a huge gaping depth...

True, true, but it's still my favorite Star Wars movie so far . What do you think of Kylo Ren? I really like him as a character. Struggling between Dark and Light.
