It's a good album, but disappointing to know it's taped from three shows. Still doesn't mean the performances are bad - the St Gohaursen DVD isn't too bad at all, where some of the songs come from and the other Boston show where another song comes from is a pretty damned good performance too.

It's spelled St.Goarshausen. It's a small town in Germany at the river Rhine, quite some historic place. The town on the opposite riverbank is St.Goar. It's the location of the famous Loreley (or Lorelei) rock. There are also two castles called "Burg Katz" and "Burg Maus", which means Castle Cat and Castle Mouse. The whole Middle Rhine valley is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Just in case anyone cares.

That's quite interesting - thanks for the info. It does look like a nice place.

I'm re-listening to the entire catalogue too but I'm only up to TUF right now. Have you knocked AB down a few notches? I can't remember you rating so low before.
  5. 1. The Joshua Tree
    2. Achtung Baby
    3. The Unforgettable Fire
    4. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

    9. Rattle & Hum
    10. Zooropa
    11. October

The Joshua Tree & Achtung are clearly U2 classics, Unforgettable Fire has always been a favourite for myself, HTDAAB & ATYCLB were a great back to basics records and with the hype of Horizon, it will definatly be right up there.

Boy & War are very raw but hold some awesome classics, Pop was instant for me, played it over & over again, got a bit sick of it to be honest, but still go back for more every now & then, overall with Pop, i don't think the songs are as strong as on other albums.

Rattle & Hum was a bit ho hum for me, i think it would have been better as a stand alone studio album with perhaps a bonus live cd.

Zooropa i listened to in the car all the way through the other week, i'll give it a few years and give it another play and October is........October, although Gloria, Brick & October are great songs, especially live.

I do the same thing! Every once in a blue moon I listen to it hoping to discover something different on it that'll make me change my mind, but so far...nothing.

That only took FOREVER TO DETERMINE!
  10. I cannot understand why Boy is being ranked higher than Zooropa.
I understand people are being sentimental, but come on.

Zooropa while not perfect, was a great experimental album that produced some truly innovative, standout songs
eg. Stay, Lemon, Zooropa, The Wanderer, Numb.

Boy was a debut album made by a bunch of 18 year olds with an inexperienced producer, Zooropa was made by a band at their prime with one of the all time producing greats.

Putting Boy in front of Zooropa doesn't add up to me.
