Bands that are (very) comparable to U2 are

Grand Avenue (Closer, She, Bullet, Give Myself Away, This Is Not An End)

Kent (Swedish rock group which also released 2 of their albums in an English version) (Stop Me June, Music Non Stop, Just Like Money, Rollercoaster, 747, Heavenly Junkies)
Matthew Good Band (Apparitions, Strange Days, Let's Get It On, Giant)
Switchfoot (Where I Belong, Dare You To Move, The Beautiful Letdown, The Shadow Proves The Sunshine, Stars)

Of those, it's Coldplay. Easy. The poll should've had some other more recent bands... almost all 2000s rock groups sound inspired by U2.

Well, the poll actually says "compare the most", so not only the musical aspects are to be considered. Trascendence, style evolution, etc are factors too. Considering all that, The Beatles are closer to U2 than Coldplay are I think.

None of them, because all are very different type of band. And Coldplay are different league (I don't understand, why are they here). It's like all of these bands are NHL, but Coldplay are hardly AHL. They are just trying to be like U2 but so far never com a little closer. If you have Coldplay here, you could put all british soft rock scene (like Snow Patrol, Killers etc.).

First of all, I don't think "none of them" is a valid choice because the question is asking "of these bands which compares to U2 most?". It's not a question of whether or not you think any of them do, it's which one does the most, even if you think they don't that much at all. So I'm surprised that's the top choice.

My choice would probably be The Beatles. Coldplay is the obvious choice, but to me they haven't been around long enough to warrant any kind of comparison. They haven't put out enough music to show how experimental they can be over a long period of time. PLUS I think they try to copy U2 too much

. The Beatles had a similar career to U2, starting out with a simple style that eventually evolved into something completely different. You could say the same for Zeppelin or Floyd, but I think Zeppelin's music style is so different from U2's that it's hard to draw a comparison, and Floyd was so different as a band (i.e they all pretty much hated eachother for a long, long time, and they only have one album that they all completely agreed creatively on - Dark Side). Stones didn't change as much and they've been a novelty act for a while (the reason I didn't choose them is because I hope U2 don't become that). Queen, like Coldplay didn't have long enough a time to show what they were capable of, too bad.
