1. from 1976 through today, U2 stayed atop of the music industry, they formed together at a christian school and won a Talent Show in 1978, just before the band could get going, they suffered family problems, Bono's mother died two years before U2 formed and Larry's mother also died in 78, but that didn't stop the band from achieving their dream, the band lived in Dublin City, Ireland which is their hometown to this day, in 1979, Bono and the band recorded their first CD which would be titled 3, the first LP that featured Out of Control and Stories For Boys in their future CD, U2 toured throughout 1979 and 1980, the band also provided two more singles Another Day and 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, U2 finally released their first album, Boy. With 2 singles, A Day Without Me and I Will Follow, I Will Follow was the first promotional video ever done by U2, U2 started the Boy Tour in September 1980 through June 1981 with five legs, in December 8, 1980. The band performed in Buffalo, the night John Lennon passed away, this was the largest tour in U2 even though they played in Small Venues, U2 returned to the studio after Boy to record their next album October, their Boy Setlist started with The Ocean and 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, and it would end with the 2 same songs including I Will Follow, U2 completed their second album in 1981 despite the lyrics being stolen at a tour, Bono referred to it in 2004 as an Act of Grace when it was recovered, future songs from this CD would also be used from this Boy Tour with I Fall Down and Fire, U2 released their album in October of 1981 and used Fire and Gloria as two singles,U2's October CD was about Christianity, even Bono found the emotion of lyrics when Tomorrow written by Bono's mother was used in this CD, as I mentioned Bono's mother died seven years when Bono wrote and played that song, The October Tour began in August of 1981 just two months after Boy finished, U2 had some crazy troubles in this tour, in November 3. 1981, U2 almost walked out after many fans was inciting a riot and Bono had to stop in between Gloria and I Will Follow to calm the fans down, but didn't work. The band did not return for an encore, in 1982. U2 introduced another song, A Celebration which was also a hit single, U2 would introduce that song in that tour, U2 started their October Set off with Gloria, and it would end with usually The Ocean, Fire and I Will Follow just previously from the tours, U2 ended the October Tour in August of 1982, after the tour, Bono married his high-school sweetheart Ali, and in the fall of 1982, U2 went back to work on their third album, The Band finally finished their recording from May through August, that CD was titled War, U2 returned to tour in December with the CD that was not released yet, U2 finished some leftover October Tours as you would call it with new songs, New Year's Day. Surrender and a violent Sunday Bloody Sunday as well, the band debriefed theirselves to warm up from their tour, U2 released War in February of 1983, Steven Wickham a member of the waterboys provided as a guest on Violin for Sunday Bloody Sunday and Drowning Man, the War CD featured songs electric, but Edge would unplug the guitar and bring acoustic songs from Seconds and Drowning Man, the band finished their album with 40 with Edge playing on Bass, this song would be featured everytime live with Edge playing the Bass and Adam on Guitar, U2 finally began the War Tour in February of 1983, with Gloria taking it's usual spot in the main set but it sometimes was replaced with Out of Control and Gloria would end the main set, four months later, the band documented their tour in Red Rocks which was called Under a Blood Red Sky, the song lyric which was from New Years Day, it was the most successful concert and brought U2 to rock n' roll status, the tour ended in November of 1983 when U2 had performed overseas for the first time in Australia, in 1984, the band recorded their next LP it was at Slane Castle, U2 were facing rumours of breaking up however the band regrouped despite all those rumours, U2 brought in Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, the Edge was impressed by Eno's work so he was brought in, it was a real undertaking for U2, U2's next Album was titled The Unforgettable Fire, after their recording, they returned to where they left off on the War Tour and that was New Zealand and Japan, the setlist continued as usual but changed drastically with Wire, Unforgettable Fire, A Sort of Homecoming and Pride being brought to the tour, Gloria and Out of Control continued their swapping set, U2 officially ended their tour overseas in September of 1984, weeks after. the fourth album was released. Pride was the first single dedicated to Martin Luther King, there were a lot of silver linings in these intimate songs, The Unforgettable Fire with an orchestra, an acoustic-stripped down Promenade that sounded electric but really was played acoustic, and Bad which Bono stated a drug called heroin, and Bono's tribute to Elvis Presley which they discovered Elvis Presley and America, and the sentimental closer to The Unforgettable Fire, MLK dedicated to King as well, the band also brought another band member Greg Carroll, the Unforgettable Fire Tour kicked off in October of 1984, Gloria and Out of Control were no longer openers, another old favorite opened the show 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, in between songs, the band played the usual set they would normally play for their Boy, October and War, in these tours, the band would interupt songs with fights breaking out, this was the different story at Radio City in December of 1984 when fights broke out and a security member aggressively attacked a fan, Bono and the band continued their show despite the chaos, another incident happened in March of 1985 in Phoenix when Bono stopped The Unforgettable Fire to calm the people down and played Pride twice for the crowd, U2 also brought their tour to MSG on April 1, 1985. the tour ended in July of 1985 after a homecoming show in Dublin on June of 85, but U2 appeared on LiveAid to perform two songs Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bad, Bad was typically the longest song ever played on tour, with snippets usually being thrown in too, after the LiveAid event, U2 took a break to prepare for their next LP, Bono stated in the Unforgettable Fire tour that they were writing new songs, Bono that year was featured in a Music Video with Artists against Apartheid, Sun City was released as a single with Bono and the rest of the apartheid crew, in 1986. The band continued writing on the next lp, however. another tour came knocking for U2, this was not a typical tour, it was a benefit tour, U2, Sting and Others would join the Amnesty International Tour, U2 would be considered the closers, but The Police reunited on the tour and they would close out the show along with U2 and the all-star band with a cover of I Shall Be Released, in June 15. 1986 on a worldwide television audience, U2 and all the others closed the Amnesty International Tour and U2 went back to work once again, but they were delayed when Bono's close friend Greg Carroll got involved in a car accident, he was killed delaying the band again, after Carroll's Funeral, Bono wrote One Tree Hill, Bono was so close to Greg Carroll when Carroll met him during the Unforgettable Fire Tour,, U2 regrouped in August to finally record their album, they completed their record in the fall, U2 then went out on the desert in December in Las Vegas to take pictures of the new album, it was called the Joshua Tree, U2's fifth album, The Joshua Tree was released in March of 1987 kicking off with U2's prominent sentimental love ballad With or Without You, the Joshua Tree Tour began in April, by then U2 were discovering america, weeks before their tour, U2 shot a video for Where The Streets Have No Name at a liquor store with fans being involved, U2 would play a free concert singing Streets not once but four times, until after Pride, the show was being forced to shut down, U2 started their tour in April 2, the band since the October Tour opened a new song Where The Streets Have No Name, U2 put their tour by being in all stadiums, U2 would also play covers, and some covers would use acoustic versions, Sunday Bloody Sunday was played slow and fast, U2 recorded Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner which would lead into Bullet The Blue Sky, in the middle of the tour, U2 were documented in America about singing, Bono had problems in the tour injuring his chin on the first rehearsal of the Joshua Tree Tour and injuring his shoulder in September, Bono was forced to wear a sling through October, The Joshua Tree provided guests from Bruce Springsteen, BB King and Maria Mckee, sometimes Stand By Me and Bullet The Blue Sky would be the openers replacing Streets, U2 played an emotional concert in Denver during filming when they heard the news of an enniskilen bombing, Bono took to the mic during Sunday Bloody Sunday and went on a long tirade saying "fuck the revolution", it was included in the movie, U2 filmed their movie in Denver and Tempe it was called Rattle and Hum, U2 finished the Joshua Tree Tour in December of 1987, in March of 1988, U2 won the grammy award for best album ever, and Rattle and Hum was debuted in October, critics slandered the movie, some loved it, critics however didn't buy it, that seemed to be the beginning of the end for U2, U2 returned to tour in late 1989 to finish where they left off from the Joshua Tree Tour, New Zealand, Australia and Japan, U2 brought in BB King and his orchestra in the end of the main set or the encore, U2 sometimes would no longer play 40 as the closer, but it would still be a closer on the tours, U2 returned to Dublin in 1989 to play four shows, on the third show, Bono stated that the band would go away and dream it up all again, the tour ended in January of 1990 at Rotterdam, and Bono stated on the sky down "Let's cut down the Joshua Tree and use a chainsaw", U2 then regrouped in 1990 with a lot of changes, they became fascinated in german music, dance, they thought they would record their next album in Berlin, after the New Year's Eve Tour, the band barely communicated, arguments got tensed between the band, when they arrived in Berlin on October of 1990 to find a new sense of hope, they were totally unprepared in a brief bridge between Mysterious Ways, Edge played a riff that brought the band to progress, the band stopped Mysterious Ways, Edge got an acoustic guitar out and Bono did the lyrics, the band followed and that song was called One, finally the band was able to stand up again they regrouped in Dublin in Christmas to keep on going, in January, they finished the Hansa sessions, in the spring. They returned to Dublin to resume the sessions.
