1. I've just got the time to give this week's album a listen and I'm not quite done with it as I write this but have only like two songs left.

The first thing that gets my attention is his voice on the first few tracks. I don't really like it. I'm not a fan of the yelling a song (something only Bono's able to pull off for me ) it's too harsh for me so I was happy to hear in the later half there were a few calmer songs. Luckily he has a English voice, being American I always like hearing those accents from Europe. The instruments are very English too, I don't mind that but it's not something I'd have listened to outside of a suggestion.

And just finished the album.... stand out songs were probably, I Am Disappeared, Nights Become Days, and Redemption. I'll have to see if I can give the album another listen or two and maybe make a more detailed post about my feelings.
  2. Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones

At first I must say I'm not fan of folk singer-songwriters, campfire music or yelling pub rock, and this album is much about it. And usually singer-songwriters have at least great lyrics, but even lyrics on this album didn't touch my heart.
But there are exceptions (musical or lyrical): Eulogy is nice intro, One Foot Before Other is powerful song and Redemption is nice song with great second half. Also English Curse is nice - telling dark story from history of England - like some traditional.

    Album: 4/10,
    One Foot... 7/10,
    Redemption 8,5/10.
I will definitely listen to those two songs, but not the rest of the album (sorry Sergio )
  3. I cannot stop listening to Redemption and One Foot. Peggy Sang the Blues is great too. Proper review coming shortly.
  4. Also, editing our schedule around based on participation and feedback. Check the first post. Olof, you're up to make a selection please!

First post edited. Bart is now at the bottom of the list in case he reappears. patou2, I decided to bump you down two more places just because I wasn't sure of the exact date you'd be returning and didn't want you to miss out on your full week of selection/reviews. Should work well from here.
  5. LOL

    Good work Matt
  6. So should I pick an album now or just before Sunday? If you need one right now, I have one in mind, if you don't need it now, I'd like to think about it a little bit more.
  7. I'm actually going to slowly change the first post over and over and make you all listen to my selections for the rest of your lives.
  8. So, I hope this is a bit of a curveball. This isn't the kind of music I usually listen to, but here we go:

Mean Love by Sinkane. The album is from last year, but I hope not that many of you have listened to it. At least it's never been discussed on U2start. I have listened to it some, but it'll be interesting for me as well to dive a bit deeper into it.

Wikipedia gives this description of Sinkane:
Sinkane (born Ahmed Gallab[1] in London, "England) is a musician who blends krautrock, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop."

    I think it's a pretty interesting mix.
  9. It's different, I'll give you that. I have no idea what to expect from this. Not sure I could even throw a name at you of someone who could make similar music. First thoughts tomorrow! (If I find it)
  10. Excellent choice
