1. Since U2 has released deluxe editions of their first five albums and Achtung Baby, and each one includes some previously unreleased material on the bonus disc(s), I was wondering what the best of these new songs are, in everyone's opinion?

I haven't listened to them all, so I'm also using this as a guide for which ones to acquire next.

Here are the ones I really like:
From Boy: The only of the new ones I've heard is Saturday Night, which is an awesome song!

From War: Angels Too Tied to the Ground was pretty good, it would've gone well on the album itself.

From The Unforgettable Fire: Both Yoshino Blossom and Disappearing Act are really good, but I think the punky instrumental Yoshino Blossom might edge it out as the better of the two.

From The Joshua Tree: Wave of Sorrow (Birdland) is great, a very Joshua Tree feeling song. Desert of Our Love is a fun, unpolished little snapshot, better than a couple of the b-sides that were released back then.

From Achtung Baby: Blow Your House Down is great, but I don't know how well it would've sat with the other songs that made the record, so it might be best that it's left off.

Those are my thoughts on the ones I've heard. What does the rest of u2start think?
  2. From Boy: Touch is a good song, much better than its early version Trevor, imho . I think it worked well live, like in Boston '81. I also like the instrumental Things To Make And Do.
Disappearing Act and Yoshino Blossom are the best unreleased material from TUF.
I actually like the unreleased material from JT better than the B-sides (is that wrong?): Race Against Time, Wave of Sorrow, Desert Of Our Love and Rise Up are awesome. I actually like Bono's reciting Beautiful Ghost and Drunk Chicken/America.
I think the hidden jewel from the unreleased Achtung Baby material is Oh Berlin, with its Rilke references and catchy chorus.
The only one of these songs that deserves to be included in an album would be Disappearing Act, but that will be cheating, since it was completed in '09.
  3. Ok, having listened to more Achtung Baby tracks, I have to say they're all quite good, but the real standouts are Near the Island, which as an odd little instrumental is quite interesting and should have definitely at least made it as a b-side, and Oh Berlin, which felt so Achtung Baby it was ridiculous.
  4. Oh Berlin is superb.
  5. Boy: Speed Of Life

War: Angels Too Tied To The Ground

    Unforgettable Fire: Yoshino Blossom

Joshua Tree: Wave Of Sorrow - I'd like to say Beautiful Ghost but it was already on the 2004 iTunes set

Achtung Baby: Oh Berlin / Near The Island / Everybody Loves A Winner (too hard to choose)
  6. Yoshino Blossom and Oh Berlin
