I only wish I was home when it was announced, have not listened to it yet but just WOW!

Oh and I've just registered here a month or two ago, looks like a pretty good place to chat about U2. Hope to be around more often!

Welcome! It is most probably the best U2 community on the internet, you'll like it here

I just wanted to add this: Someone give Bono a medal for not spoiling the surprise earlier!!
  2. Having my 1st listen, Loved the Miracle, loved EBW. OHHHHHH how long ive been waiting for this.

    now its time for California

  3. Thanks!

Just finished my first listen. It's an alright to good album but there was only 2 standout tracks for me. Every Breaking Wave and Iris. After I give it a few more listens I'll have to try to decide where it goes in my U2 album rankings. I don't think it cracked top 5 though.
  4. Have given it multiple listens today - and while it is actually better than I was expecting this album would be, there is something I couldn't place my finger on about it that was bugging me. Then I spoke to a friend about the album and got it.

This new album lacks highs and lows. Every recent U2 album had out-of-the gate highs (for NLOTH the tracks for me were NLOTH, Unknown Caller and Fez...they all stood out IMMEDIATELY). Unfortunately new U2 albums have come with very cringe-worthy lows as well (how I immediately felt hearing Crazy Tonight and Stand Up Comedy).

But this album...is...strangely even for a U2 album. No immediate duds...but no immediate gems either. It's just...very...even.
  5. What a day, guys.

This release was a huge surprise...We were expecting some songs in a new cellphone and they came with an entire album for free. Only U2!

I was too excited, so I had to turn off the social network to pay attention just on the album itself, and what an album!

I can't make a review of it yet, but I tell you this is a strong album, a complete one.

It has a lot of influence from a lot of U2 albums, but it also has an unique atmosphere or feeling when you're listen to it. It's not a reinvention, but it's more like U2 decided to pick some of their good characteristcs and put them together with recent music trends...in a good way.

Finally, it's more consistent than the last 2 albums, and it has something that biggest part of U2 albums doesn't have: a beggining, with influence from early times, and an end, more experimental.

Can't rank favorite songs now, but Breaking Wave, California, Sleep Like A Baby Tonight and Troubles seem to have my attention now.

    Talk to you soon, friends!

    Greetings from Brazil
  6. Looks like this album was...pro-bono?

  7. I'm right there with you.

  8. Agreed! I was simply excited for the hype of a new single, then the album a month or two later. Now we get this and more in a month (Definitely buying a physical copy.)
  9. Not saying I called this at all...because I didn't...BUT remember when there was talk of the iTunes Festival and I said it would be awesome if they did their set and said "Our new album is on iTunes NOW". NEVER thought they would give it away though! SO amazing.
