1. first, crystal ballroom?? Edges longest guitar solo EVER????

Iris, agree lame song. the Uh uh uh uh singing is chris martin. nuf said.

    song for someone...meh.

reach me now... waaaaay too much production. Lose the intro and the stupid bad reggeae riff, guitar crap. play that song with one strumming acoustic guitar and band, strip the excess stuff off.. and THEN you have a killer song, perfect tribute to the clash!!! they really went way to far with this one in the studio.

  2. It bores me. And Crystal Ballroom is just catchy and funky as h*ll. Would've been a good single.
  3. I actually really like both songs
  4. You guys are kidding. Iris is amazing.
  5. Crystal Ballroom is fantastic. I'm glad it wasn't on the album in a way, because they owed us a decent non-album track
  6. Iris is heartbreakingly beautiful to me. Very haunting and a superb pop song. It has the sound of a modern song that someone like Epworth and Coldplay might do, sure, but with the U2 polish on it. It's U2 saying "we can do this pop shyte too" but it has some of Bono's most personal lyrics ever on it.

Crystal Ballroom is cool, but it's allure has worn off a tad for me. It's a great song, but to me there's not much special about it.
  7. I think The Crystal Ballroom might be a better sounding song but Iris fits better on the album and is more heartbreaking I think.
  8. Agreed here. Crystal Ballroom is slightly better to me, but Iris has excellent lyrics (I think) and to me it has almost an "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)" vibe to it. Maybe it's especially the intro that does this for me - it sounds similar to the opening of UV and it always gives me goosebumps.

Anyway. I really hope we get to hear both songs live. Maybe near the beginning of the set for TCB and somewhere near the end/encore for Iris? Combine either one of those with Mofo or Lemon and I would be in heaven...
  9. I still think Iris fits better with the theme of the album as whole. Crystal Ballroom is a stronger song, but putting it on the album would make it less cohesive and more like a conglomeration of good songs.

Also, while we are all debating the weakest song on the album, let's not forget that every song in this album is still pretty strong compared to the rest of U2's discography. Most, if not all, of these songs are better than most of NLOTH, half of HTDAAB, and all of Pop.
  10. I think it wasn't on the album because it doesn't seem to be finished. The last minute and a half (!) is instrumental... Give it a big ending and you've got one of the best songs/singles of the last 15 years.
  11. A bit of instrumental can never hurt, but I somehow agree with you. I still doom this as one of the best songs they've done in the last 20 years, specially with Bono's explanation of the story behind it.
