1. Awful voice in SFS... why trying to do it acoustic if the voice isn't there anymore? One of the worst promo tours for me so far... boring and predictable
  2. So far.

But then again, aren't promo tours always predictable? When NLOTH was released, everyone knew that the band was going to go around and play Boots and Magnificent.
  3. We never used to get promo tours so let us be grateful... Others were predictable- they played the same 4 songs from all the last 3 albums... Beaut Day, Elevation, Stuck, Vert, Boots, etc.

Last night brought a tear to my eye, pure passion, so what if the voice was a little shaky.

Bono's mention of glaucoma while sad, was also positive for the band, lots of people don't get why he wears them all the time. I also think that we'd heard about this before...I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that he wears the glasses because of an illness and to avoid intense lights like flashes or screens at the gig.
And yes, it seemed to me too that they were caught off guard when told to play SFS. Maybe they had other plans on when and where to play it, because I see Bono say something to Graham (can't really make out the words) about doing it some other way and Graham answers there is no time just do it here.

BTW - One of the fans I met yesterday said he had a friend involved in the show that told him the Jools Holland performance is going to be pre-recorded without an audience. I have no idea how they'll mix that with the rest of the show, but it does suggest that maybe they're not yet confident with playing the songs live and in front of an audience.

Bono was mentioning to the host about doing the refld chair featurette that normally closes the show, they weren't discussing the song.

If true, that sucks about Jools Holland. It would clearly suggest a lack of confidence to me. The band will likely want the time to do multiple takes instead of just doing live like every other band that's appeared on the sho .
  5. I don't mind the under rehearsed songs for some reason. They have a sort of Raw sound to them ala Popmart Opening night. I quite enjoyed that version of The Miracle last night. Obviously trying to find the right formula

    You talk sense my friend.

They are a proffesional rock band, they have plenty of studios & stages to rehearse everything TO DEATH and present the songs already polished, specially when it's on TV an to a potentially unknown audience. Popmart Las Vegas was a debacle but it was in front of their own (paying) 50.000 people audience, so it was obviously less harmful than a mediocre performance that's aired to millions on a national TV.
  8. Yes but one of the reasons I love U2 is because they are not perfect and Bono does forget the words. Songs rehearsed to death and are note for note are boring. Might as well go and watch the eagles or something.
  9. A nice polished show band or a natural, passionate group of mates still rocking it out, making a tv studio look like a live arena and then playing a soulful acoustic performance on a sofa... Who else does that.
  10. The version of The Miracle Mircale they played yesterday was pretty different to the album both in style and sound texture (and I like that), but it was obviously under-rehearsed, Bono's vocals were not brilliant (to say the least), Edge sounded shabby and overall it was not a national TV worth performance.

Yes and to me it is an positive up song about discovering the power and joy of music. Bono shouldn't do his vertigo boxing act on this one anymore, I would suggest a Magnificent kind of act

Amen. His stupid I'm-55-and-still-rocking moves don't let him sing it well, and moreover they just don't fit the song.
