Met Michael Stipe. Cool guy. Funny too. Not only did he sign my book but my Taylor acoustic. he saw the signature that was already on there (Daniel Lanois) and said: "Who's signature is that?" I said: "Oh, that's Daniel Lanois'." Michael joked: "Oh good. I wouldn't sign it if it were anyone gross." I laughed and said: "Nope, no Motley Crue". Michael laughed and said: "I didn't say that...". I answered back: "Nor Rod Stewart". Michael laughed. I told him I'd read a comment he'd made, elluding to Rod Stewart, in a book somewhere". He smiled and laughed.
As I was leaving, REM touring guitarist Scott McCaughey came in the store. It wasn't planned for him to be at the signing but it was a cool thing. I called him over and he too signed my Taylor and we chatted a bit. Nice guy.
Anywho... it was a nice time and cool to meet them both.

I did talk guitars with Scott McCaughey (REM touring guitarist). He plays some cool guitars, including a Mosrite like knockoff made by Eastwood (HiFlyer model). they also make Airline model knockoffs like the one's Jack White of The White Stripes uses.

Might sound like an odd question but do you still play your Taylor, with all the signatures on it and everything? I just a couple of people who don't touch guitars that have been signed by famous people, much like others don't wear football (soccer) shirts with famous players' sigs. on them!

Oddly, black isn't a stock finish, for the "Retro Rocket Elite". (It is available for the Retro Rocket Pro). But I have talked to the lad Fernandes and he said that I can get one EXACTLY like The Edge's - in black too - for about $1000-$1100. I will have to look into that. I like the black pearl pickguard too. Nice looking guitar. And the sound good to me.

Out of interest, since that pic has such a good example of what I've been wondering about, the technique Edge uses for soloing, i.e. using the fourth finger primarily with the index and third covering the rest of the strings - is that a particular technique? I mean, does it have a particular name/term for it, like you have techniques such as palm-muting etc.? I always wondered because I've not noticed any other guitarists to use it (that said, I haven't watched that many!), and I've kinda developed it into my own style of playing, but not being one for technicalities I don't know whether it's an 'official' technique or what have you - I taught myself to play guitar so it's always something new when people get technical with regard to guitars!
