Originally posted by ReclinerManI've read this and I see how it is worrisome. Sound should continue to be awesome and I'm for high quality remastering, but if we kill our ears with stuff like this, then why bother making well recorded recordings at all? It's very much a step backward from the days of Norman Smith, Geoff Emerick and other great engineers who truly respected the sound and texture of the recording. It's sad when you think about it.
On the other hand, when I see the comparison between the original and remastered With or Without You, it shows how you can properly use a quality format like a CD to its full potential. Thank you, U2, and thank you those who still care. (With special mention to The Edge who's in charge of these great remasters)![]()
Originally posted by stj0691You are right about your first bit. However, I found the Joshua Tree remaster too loud. Thats just me though. I think this album was as loud as my bootleg The Who live in Toronto 1975, which is LOUD.
Some tracks off of Coldplay's new album are too loud. Viva la Vida, Violet Hill and Lost (acoustic) are examples. I put these in Audacity and they are squished into the wavelength. The only song so far that doesn't is Life In Technicolor.

I think it's more a matter of audiophilic conjecture. Me, I don't mind getting my ears blasted in when I'm in control of it. This is coming from a guy who was nervous of loud noises when he was younger and still is. But I almost want the music to wash over me like a wave. I like to tune society out when I'm listening to something and focus solely on the music.
Although, one thing about the article that is very true is how too much loud music blasting can cause strain on your eardrums and I've certainly done that enough. But you know, if you are more critical of loudness than I am I'm not going to knock you for it. Let's just love music here, man.![]()

Come on. It was only marginally louder but it was obviously a lot clearer, had more depth, I heard things in that remaster that I didn't even know existed. Much more work in there than a volume increase.

I know... but it's just my opinion (running away with me)
