Sounds familiar Gerard, whaha...I'll post tomorrow in that case.
  6. Composing a review as we speak! I've just been tied up with exams over the last few days - I had THREE papers on Thursday, was in the exam hall from 9am until 4pm and wasn't allowed out because I had to be supervised with a few other people in case we told people who'd be doing the paper after us what it was all about lol. And Friday was a shitty Philosophy paper which had 4 bastardly questions to choose 2 from, and it doesn't help when you basically haven't been taught anything all bloody year lol...

Like I say, review coming up tonight!

    Looking forward to it!

Disappointing. This could very well be one of the all time great bootlegs but the version we have on here is compressed to nothing and it's from a very high gen source (this is probably a second or third copy of the original). In it's current state it's a 3 star but it could be a 5 some time in the future. Bono's vocals came through fine but the recording really struggled when trying to let the bass through. Maybe if I can get the lossless and re-encode it myself to 192kbps we might see some improvement but we really do need a lower gen. You can't polish a turd after all. 3 stars

    Performance

Probably nowhere near as bad as my personal opinion stated after my first listen but it's well known that a shit sounding recording really can put a dampner on a potentially great performance. The show had much more of a Joshua Tree feel than a LoveTown gig (maybe because it was outdoors?). The recording masked any power that there might have been and despite Bono's shouts of 'I CAN SING!!' and 'The doctor bla bla bla' his voice still sounded broke (and crap) to my ears. I can't really pick out any hilight moments but if forced I would say Streets as I think a broken and rusty voice kinda suits the song. Setlist was bog standard LoveTown so nothing much to shout about there.

    6/10

    Overall

The recording and Bono's lack of voice kinda ruined the gig overall for me. As my progression into an audiophile continues it pains me to hear that there is such a great recording out there just waiting to be released and when it does, i'm sure it will be a classic. As it stands though, I found no connection to the gig at all. A re-encode from a known source may help but we really do need a master or 1st gen. Here's hoping.

    Setlist & Performance
My first Lovetown show I've heard. I love how they throw in some R&H gems, which really got me to like the album (R&H) more. Hearing Streets open just awesome. Also noted that Bono was having some trouble vocally, but it didn't really ruin this one.
I now like God Pt II after hearing it live. Never really gave it a good listen before, but now I like it a lot. All Along the Watchtower is a great song. Many have covered it, and U2 does a great job with it on this night. Love how the Edge plays like Hendrix. Another thing I liked was how raw AIWIS sounded. This number will grow into something superb by the end of PopMart. I like how they played a cover number, this one being "People Get Ready". Pretty cool. I like how the person from the audience played Bono's guitar so good, probably better than Bono could ever play in his life. Bad's intro is cut off, but still a good version nonetheless. Van Diemen's Land is another R&H I gained respect for. Edge sounds a bit like Keith Richards (dont ask...), kinda why I liked it. Now for the encore. I liked the guitar intro to Angel of Harlem. I found it cool that BB KIng & co. also played with U2. Probably one of the best versions I've heard of this song so far. The show closes with WOWY/ Shine Like Stars and 40. With or Without You was good, made even better with the Shine Like Stars snippet. 40 is always great, I've never heard a bad version of this song, and probably never will. A perfect example right here. A great version on this night, and a fantastic closing to a great show. Highliights for me were God Pt. II, People Get Ready, Van Diemen's Land, Angel of Harlem, and With or Without You. 3.5/5 stars

I was excited that it said soundboard. Like most people, when I hear soundboard, I'm thinking it will sound great. Not the case here. I've heard better audience recordings than this. 2/5 stars

Good set, great songs, bad sound. What more could I say? I'm going off now to hear the Point Depot gigs. Perhaps they won't be muffled or sound fuzzy... 2.5/5 stars

I believe for an audiophile your sound assessment was pretty generous! I'm with you all the way in finding the original source material though. Like you said, it could be up there with one of the great R&H bootlegs. Did you feel that Bono was particularly lighthearted this show? I also enjoyed WOWY/Shine Like Stars here. As I said in a previos review, it kinda makes me remember how great it can sound live.

Bono did appear to be laid back throughout LoveTown, much more so than at anytime during JT. The band always said those 89 gigs were great because they were just out there playing music because they loved doing it. In all honestly thought, apart from the last 8 nights of LoveTown, there really are no other great great recordings.

Probably because us Aussies have been relatively slack at that sort of thing.
