    We're getting several emails tonight from U2.com regulars telling us about various threads in the Zootopia forums. Seems there's a lot of activity lately outside Hanover Quay, and fans are asking questions and getting information like this:

    * The band has one week of work left on the album.
    * Brian Eno told fans about a new song called 'Moment of Surrender' and said it's "the best thing" he's recorded with U2.
    * Sam O'Sullivan told fans the band is on a tight schedule because the album has to be ready for October.
    * Tour will start in March and will visit North America and Europe. (no idea on source)

    So there you have it. Thx to our Zootopia friends (C, A, etc.) for sharing the news so we can share with our readers.

    "U2place.com has the news. Sam again said that the album ought to be ready for October, meanwhile Edge says the tour starts in March in US (in Las Vegas) and continues in Europe.

    !!!!!!!

    I sense a spiritual album, not that that would be a surprise, this album just feels like it's gonna be going somewhere completely new, but familiar

    So was the last record not innovative, or it was and they're trying to work up hype with this new one?

    I wonder if it's some of both. There's a difference between just parting with the sound you had on the last album--which they seem to be doing--and making an album that can really stand alone as a truly "different" record from anything they've done before, i.e. Achtung Baby. I wonder if it is just some hyperbole from Lanois in trying to create some hype.

    I guess we'll find out in October!

    Exactly. I reckon. Companies try and work up hype for new products while at the same time keeping trade secrets, it's about the best comparison I could do. The new album is no different for both hype and trade secrets. If you remember ATYCLB pre-release (and a casual or die-hard fan before those days, going back to Pop), they were very open about release dates, titles, touring etc. Maybe this is the same shit, different year. Ah well...only one way to find out in a few months - or weeks.

    This is getting interesting. Don't take it as the final word though.

    ATYCLB's theme was "return to what we were about, after we went crazy with Zoo TV and PopMart". Funny how those were the two best tours the band ever did.

    HTDAAB was U2 trying to be a rock band, and fit in with the world, while proclaimed to bring about Love and Peace.... or else.

    Achtung was innovative, as was Pop. Zooropa was def innovative, and I shouldnt have to say why. War was innovative, or was it? The Who had a semi-political album released in 1982, called It's Hard. War had the punk feel of the time, mixed with political songs. Sounds like something the Clash did (London Calling anyone?). So, if anything, here are the innovative records by U2:

    Joshua Tree
    Achtung
    Zooropa
    Pop

    Innovative to U2:

    War
    TUF
    Joshua Tree
    R&H
    Achtung
    Zooropa
    Pop
    ATYCLB

    The 2nd list is the music U2 made, which seemed new to the band. Perhaps this record could have a sound unlike anything else we've heard before. I'm ready for what's next...
  11. Hype and Lanois together? I don't think so. You cannot work with Bob Dylan if you're interested in something called "hype".

    So I'm very happy that these informations come from Lanois and Eno and not from Bono or Edge.
