I'm doing this by album:

Boy - I Will Follow, Out of Control
October - zilch, nada, zippo
War - SBS
TUF - ASOH, Pride, Bad
JT - Streets, WOWY (took a lot of guts to leave Still Havent Found out of this)
R&H - AIWIY
Achtung - One (we're sick of it, but this would be new and refreshing to others)
Zooropa - none of it, too experimental for anything to be best song
Pop - same as Zooropa
ATYCLB - Kite, Walk On
HTDAAB - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, COBL

after all this, heres the list of songs by U2 that deserve nod for best song

SBS, Pride, Bad, Streets, WOWY, AIWIY, One, Kite, Walk On, SYCMIOYO, and COBL

comparing which is best studio and live, as well lyrically:

SBS, Pride, Streets, WOWY, One, Kite and COBL

and eliminate the songs people here are "sick of"

#1 seed: Streets,
#2 seed WOWY,
#3 seed COBL
# 4 seed Kite

Streets beats Kite, COBL beats WOWY

So either COBL or Streets for me. But Streets has withstood more time, so Streets wins it.

/\ I am far from sick of Kite. the album version, yea, its mediocre at best, but the 8 minute version live from Sydney on the WITS single is amazing. The song progresses beautifully, and that solo towards the end is unbelievable, one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. However, I have always been torn between this version of Kite and a good Elevation version of WOWY (such as from Slane), both are so wonderful.

So, tie between Kite (Sydney) and With or Without You (Slane) i suppose.

Steve m'man, please note that not EVERYONE is sick of One, or any others that are claimed to be "overplayed" etc. Everyone has their own opinion, but I wouldn't say that everyone is sick of us! The only version I dislike is on the Chicago DVD when Bono's guitar is far too loud lol.

lol, I think that's being a bit harsh to be honest - my qualm was that it had far too much distortion. Listen to pretty much every other Vertigo show and his Gretsch (as the rhythm part) fits perfectly, e.g. the Fly

. We are a bit harsh on him, he's not a bad guitar player lol.

The close second, is a tie between "Love is Blindness", "WOWY", "EBTTRT", "Follow", "The Electric Co." "SYCMIOYO", "SBS", "New Year's Day", "MLK", "Exit", "Stay", "COBL", "RHMT", "RTSS", "In God's Country" & "New York". Quite a list I got going there, huh? The rest are all tied very close thirds.
