1. Well, I usually say 'are', e.g. I think U2 are awesome. You'd be more likely to say that U2 are performing tonight too. I can't of any use of 'is' unless you say this is U2 performing...or something like that

    Why not say: U2 is performing tonight? Might have something to do with the different languages. In Dutch we would say: 'U2 treedt op'...directly translated to 'U2 performs out'. Sounds dull, but it influences the interprentation of things.
  3. Just look at the answers and where people are from. Ireland and Britain say "are", North America say "is". As U2 is Irish, the correct for them is "are". They say it like that all the time on U2BYU2.

  5. I'd say both, I think it is proper to say 'are' since technically U2 is a plural thing (maybe not though, hmm) i dont care, i just say whatever i feel like at the time haha

    I think in america they say U2 'is' the best band in the world.
    But U2 'are' they're a group of people, doesnt make sense to me...
