To say something that the other person wasn't expecting at all.

Like any of us saying one day out of the blue that U2 is (are?) the worst band ever.

Not the analogy that I would use LOL
But yeah something that occurs sponaneously that was a little unexpected which catches people unprepared or unaware.

Don't think it will ever come to that (hopefully) for any of us.

It's a baseball analogy, Harry. Which would explain your unfamiliarity with it. What do you guys have, cricket? Pssssh. The poor man's baseball.

Hey now, you're not just dealing with an English chap here! Leave cricket alone!!!! We take great pride in being the best in the world at it (followed closely by whipping England whenever we get a chance) and more countries probably play it then baseball!

No offense intended! I'm completely ignorant of the sport, so i really can't make fun of it. I've always wondered why baseball doesn't adopt the flat bats--it seems so much easier than the skinny ones we've got. One of the many advatnages to cricket, I'm sure.
  10. While we're talking about sports....

    how about them Boston Celtics?

maybe not the best championship [basketball] ever, but in my lifetime its up there (nothing will top the Red Sox [baseball] winning in '04)

Friggin' awesome! Did you go to the parade today? I saw coverage of it on the news--a huge sea of green, everywhere. Awesome.

No offence taken trust me. While a flat bat is obviously easier to hit a ball with than a round one, it needs to be remembered that cricket bowlers bounce the ball on the pitch before it gets to the batsman which raises the degrees of difficulty significantly. Because the ball can bounce, it can also spin off the pitch which is not something you see in baseball.
