Violet Hill is like listening to SBS....more bullocks. Lost is like One Tree Hill....

My point is I'm glad Coldplay respects U2 so much....but perhaps they need to actually be themselves. Because if they do change their sound again, that's only admitting they want to have U2's career.

Violet Hill goes into the same direction as SBS in it's meaning, but there's a gazillion anti-war songs that deal with critisizing today's society.
Lost like One tree hill? If you search hard enough for similarities you'll find some in every song of every artist...

I would have partly agreed with you on earlier releases, but on Viva, they really found themselves.

So, I guess if they change their sound, they want to have U2's career, if they don't change it, they're boring U2 rip-offs.

I remember Chris Martin saying that "42" was a nod towards "40", but I can't see how. To be fair, who wouldn't want to have U2's career lol? Essentially, I think this was Coldplay realising that they might have been starting to wander too near to the sounds and ways of other bands such as U2 (I mean, I still think that Fix You bears strong similarities to Miracle Drug but anyway), and they actually have stepped away and gone down their own path. Sure, they recruited Brian Eno as producer but he doesn't just help produce U2 music, he has his own style which he's helped apply to other bands, and, to me, is partly why Viva la Vida is such a fresh album to listen to . Coldplay wanted to find themselves and I think they have - they just needed someone to point them in the right direction.
