1. And the cool thing about the Epiphone Music Rising, all the money goes to Music Rising. So essentially, it giving Music Rising a $600.00 donation and getting a "gift" of a guitar... and since it was through Musicians Friend... tax free AND shipping was free.

    Solid!

yeah, the whole music rising thing is really great if I could play the guitar and had the money I'd get one of those beauties... but I can't, so I could only buy the t-shirt haha.

cool for you though about the black music rising guitar, wanna share any pictures?

Here is the original piccy from that the CD bootleg cover came from:
    http://www.u2gigs.com/tourpictures/?display=2005%20-%20Vertigo%20Tour%2F2005-10-10%20-%20New%20York%2FDSC02785.JPG

So it appears that it is INDEED from the October 10th 2005 show.

Here's another pic, same show, of Edge using the Gold Top:
    http://www.u2gigs.com/tourpictures/?display=2005%20-%20Vertigo%20Tour%2F2005-10-10%20-%20New%20York%2FDSC02787.JPG

Judging by the headset microphone... Most likely he's playing ZOO STATION with the Gold Top. (Hence, showing my theory that he might be using that in lieu of one of the LP Customs normally used on a tune)

Great stuff Jeff thanks for that. Judging by the 2nd pic, I'd say it definitely is ZS judging by where his fingers are fret-wise. Seems strange to change from the '75 to the '83 but who knows - I haven't listened to any of the MSG shows yet, perhaps they played ZS in A rather than Ab? Obviously, I'm guessing he may have duplicate models but since they play UTEOTW in G and Edge uses the Goldtop, perhaps they tried to play ZS up a key? If that is the case, it was an experiment that didn't last long because I'm fairly sure they played ZS in Ab again on the South American leg (from watching videos of the Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo gigs on YouTube).

Do you know if Edge has more than one Goldtop, each in different tunings?

    Once again, cheers mate!

PS - another thing, do you know if there are still any Music Rising LPs around? I know there were limited edition versions but I can't remember whether that was Gibson and/or Epiphone models - either way I'd love to get one but only if the proceeds would still find their way towards M.R., i.e. I wouldn't be interested in getting one from eBay at a cut price if the money was gonna go straight to a single person.

I am pretty sure that The Edge has more than one 30th Anniversary Gold Top. There were two at Guitar Center's vintage room. I'd played both and both sounded great. The guys there know that I'm a U2 fan and I'd talked with Dallas when he was there once. So when I went back and the (2) 30th Anniv. Gold Tops were gone... I asked who bought them... The guy said "I think you know". So while I'm not certain, sounds like Edge has more than the one.

As for Zoo Station... Edge had been playing that on the 1973 Les Paul Custom, mostly. The `73 has black knobs and the `75 has gold. (`75 being the auctioned LP)

Music Rising Les Pauls - Gibson and Epiphone. Both were limited editions and last I heard, both have sold out. If you buy second hand, the money will go to the seller and not Music Rising, unless it's one auctioned at the next Icons of Music Auction. (Start saving!)

Hi there. I did post some pics of my guitars a while back. I'll post them again. Although, I didn't have the Music Rising at the time of those pictures. I also don't presently own a digital camera. I do plan to get one in the next few weeks. So I will takes some detailed piccies of my guitars to post.

The previous pics and my Vertigo tour pics were taken with a girlfriends camera.

Here's some of the earlier pics:

L-R: 2002 Taylor "Big Baby" [signed by Daniel Lanois. Now it's also got Michael Stipe and REM touring guitarist Scott McCaughey's signatures too] > 2004 Gibson J180 12 string. [LOVELY guitar in finish and sound] > 1998 Fender "Eric Clapton" model Stratocaster > and my beloved 1976 Gibson (Limited Edition) Explorer

    Danny's signature:

Danelectro 12-string electric [blue sparkle finish]

My RIckenbacker 330 6-string [burgundyglo finish]:

Some of the rack gear I have and my Vox practice amp. [(2) Korg A3's for that AB/ZOOROPA goodness, a Korg SDD2000 delay

Thanks. I do feel lucky to have the 'toys' that I have. Some from hard work and some were gifts from some pretty great friends. They are great anyway, not due to their buying me guitars or effects.

My former g/f, Melissa, bought me the Explorer. We are still the best of friends. She certainly surprised me when she bought that for me. Turns out, she and another friend of ours, had been searching high and low to find one for me. The fact that she went to the extent of finding a 1976 - just like Edge's... well, that shows her attention to detail - that is for sure!

I love my Ric. That is my baby. I only bring it out to play it, then it is wiped down and lovingly put back - safe - in it's case. And the finish is a rare one... they only make Burgundyglo sometimes. Mine is a 2002. They'd last made burgundyglo in... I think it was the early 1980's
  8. really impressive, mate (just like all your knowledge about edge's guitars!).
what are you planning on buying next, if you're planning anything that is..?

and to give you something else to 'work' on .. any idea whether edge used this guitar again? I think I only saw him use it on the truck when they promoted their new album..

just being curious here, hope that's ok.

That there is an Epiphone Sheraton. I only saw Edge use it on the flatbed for the "All Because of You" video shoot. I've not seen him play it elsewhere nor seen pictures of him using it.

It was probably used for the video, as his Casino was with the other guitars (getting setup by Dallas) at the Brooklyn Bridge.

  10. What is the difference between an Epiphone Sheraton and Casino?

Casino = Body is all hollow. (2) P-90 pickups [single coil]

Sheraton = Hollow BUT has a soundblock of wood in the center, where the (2) humbucker pickups are mounted. [double coil]

Epiphone Casino is similar to it's Gibson (cousin) 330, like the one that Edge used for "One" on the ZOO tours and in the "Who's Gonna Ride..." video.

Legend has it, Edge's 330 drowned in the HQ flood.

Epiphone Sheraton is closer to that of it's Gibson (cousin) the 335, which Edge used for "One Tree Hill" during the Joshua Tree tour. (Seen as the bonus track on the VHS for The Best of 1980-1990)

Not sure where Edge 335 is... Looked and sounded pretty great!
  11. wow thanks a lot lots of info for someone like me, I'll at least try to keep the names of the guitars in my mind and some of the important details. not that it's actually of any use to me, except that I just want to -know- haha.

too bad we haven't seen sheraton again, it looks quite unique to me.
wonder where he keeps all those guitars we haven't seen again..

    Argh, '73 vs. '75, s'all the same

Would you be able to give some pointers as to which songs should be recognised as songs that are/were performed on the '73 vs. songs performed on the '75 (or at least, which ones are more predominantly so)?

Secondly, I saw those pics first time around but I'll say it again, great collection! Great kit you have there m'man

An Explorer is one of the next things on my list, must say - last time I checked, Epi. Explorers (in a natural finish) were going for £250 which isn't bad in my books! I was also thinking about a Casino, although something tells me that's gonna fetch more than £250 lol...

...another couple of things to add to my shopping list, along with a decent amp. (I'm thinking a Vox AC-30) and something like a Boss GT6, although the more I think, the more I need to save cash for basically everything! Sounds like a need a better job, eh?
