  3. Where's this Amazon box? Can't find it online at all......
  4. Okay..
I have listened to the advance MP3s for the 3 remasters:
Boy gets my money, well the second disc anyway. The album doesn't sound any better than the Toshiba EMI vinyl release.
And now the mystery of what Saturday Night is.... it's....won't spoil it for you.
The b-side and demos on Boy sound fresh. There is so much clarity, U2-3 "Stories For Boys" version has an interesting added ending. And Saturday Night is.....

October (the album) sounds better than the widely available analog transfer version. But the second disc is kind of weak. If not for A Celebration and the BBC session tracks I would tell collectors/fans to skip the deluxe version.

The War remaster falls very short of the superior Mobile Fidelity 24bit Ultradisc version. There are no extended sequences for Seconds and Surrender. Right there is a deal-breaker. It's the same War you all have only slightly better sounding, and nowhere as good sounding as the MFSL version. The track Angels Too Tied To the Ground. What gives? That's not a War era Bono singing. Sounds like an outatke from myabe post Joshua Tree. What's it doing on the War deluxe? New Year's Day ver II is named as US Remix?? It originally lists as ver II on the Sunday Bloody Sunday US 12". What was Edge doing on this release....

So folks, out of the three, October the album is great, the second disc is weak, War is a complete no-sale for me. And the winner is Boy, disc 2.

So now that we know U2 won't give us the early demos and Be There, who's up for remastering what they already have?

Edge should not have re-released War in this fashion. I fear he has just contributed to landfill pollution.

Wasn't that the aim of the re-release - to have the same War in better quality?
One could have added the extended versions of Seconds and Like A Song as bonus, but I like to have the identical version. I agree on Angels, though - same as Wave of sorrow on JT.
"New Year's Day ver II" has always been called US Remix. What US 12" of SBS btw.?

Also, I'm amazed how you compare your -probably lossless- original album to the lossy remaster...
  6. I finally listened to October in all its remastered glory (as I misplaced it so many times and could never find it). And it seems October benefits the most.
  7. nice opinions so far. I've just pre-ordered the limited edition t-shirt sets and i'm gonna buy all 3 deluxe versions tomorrow. Can't wait to hear Boy and War
  8. wow i have the new october and boy...

and its great its much clearer and a more full sound ... great to hear!

the bonus discs are good have the live tracks heard along time ago so its great to have them on cd..in good quality!

saturday night and speed of light are very good didn't except much of it but they fit right in to the album

and the packaging is great so good that hard carton beautiful design
nice booklet with the cd's in it very refreshing

they v done a good job for this!
  9. reading all those opinions makes me totally want to listen to the re-releases, but I'll have to wait for my amazon order to arrive first (which'll take a while )... I was walking by the deluxe versions yesterday in a media shop though and damn, it was so hard not to buy them.
  10. I just read somewhere that the Japanese deluxe version of Boy has two tracks not seen on any of the other editions, 'Bad Weed Blues' and 'Side Split'.
...if anyone has them, could he/she be so kind and send me a pm ?

As for my opinion I totally don't regret buying the deluxe editions. Sound is great and the bonus CDs are a treat all the way through ...cannot give detailed impressions on the previously unreleased stuff as I do not have the time right now, but Angels Too Tied... is a great song I kinda didn't expect.
