C'mon, even you must admit that the quality of songwriting, the spirit of the shows, the live performances were way better in the past....

As FlowerChild said - it was different. They were different. You were different.

For example, when I started to explore U2 at a time when Vertigo single was released on few forums I read about all U2 albums, and everyone was spitting on Pop and Bomb. They are unfinished, commercial (the funniest argument in the world!), yada, yada, yada... And I thought "These people listen to U2 for years, so they must be right." I listened to these two album, but didn't get into them. So I left them behind, I just didn't listen to them. After like 2 years when I was already totally into U2 I started to ask myself...I like every single U2 song, but I never listen to Pop and Bomb. Why? And I gave them enough time and found that Pop and Bomb are great albums, just like every other U2 album.

Same was with "Elvis Presley and America". No one likes it, but I think it's one of the most brilliant U2 songs.

Today I enjoy bootlegs from all tours and I don't find any tour bad or better than others. They're, just like albums - different colors of the same rainbow.

A bit too dead cert for my liking, in that I don't think it's fair to say "everyone spits on them" i.e. no one likes them. Ask around here, most people like both albums, indeed, Pop seems to be a favourite amongst a lot of people for its originality - sure, I don't know which ones you were looking at, but I wonder what forums you were checking out. Yes, commercially both have a bit of reputation - Pop for being where U2 fell down and HTDAAB for being too much of a standard rock record, but I don't think you're the only one who likes them.

And saying something's different doesn't mean that it can't be better or worse than something you compare it too...

No one? Again, to me that seems a bit rich to be so black and white mate

I wouldn't say brilliant, but it is good indeed.

Right, but we're talking about art...not potatoes. :p In art you can like something more or less, you cn't say that something is better or worse compared to another piece of art, IMO.

But you can, that's where personal preference comes in lol. If an artist wants to try and convey something via. a piece of art, but is the only person who can see such a message, and then compare it to an artist's piece of work where the message is clear, that is arguably better or worse
