The most complete and radical U2 album

Clip 1: No Line on the horizon? / Lanois clip
Clip 2: Walk Out Into the Streets? / Mercy references?
Clip 3: The one we've had in the Last Larry and in Edge's back videos from U2.com?/Sexy boots?
Clip4: Love is all we've left?

    Happy guessing

Thanks for posting, Yeah. I'm trying to decide if I want to download and take a listen, or wait a few months and be surprised (and hopefully blown away....)

really worth a listen. Gives you a feel without giving much away.
  3. Here's what I got from about a half hour of listening:

    1. The “Here is What It Is” clip:
    0:14 – “There’s a number”
    0:21 – “In the silence”
0:45 – “And gravity, heal me, use me, that I may see”
1:42 – “We built this house”
2:28 – “From day to day”

Atmospheric yet solid. Nice guitar solo from Edge—clearest indication of “trance” influences of the four clips to my ears. Staticco singing in the chorus.

    2. Walk Out Into the Streets:
0:22 – “…stranger in my home / Would you? / And it would be...”
0:52 – “Walk out into the streets / Throw your heart out…the ground at your feet”
    1:13 – “Pleeeease…I can breathe”
1:23 – “Since the end of June”
    2:28 – “YE-EAH, oh YE-EAH”

Much better than the original Walk Out Into the Streets clip. Different lyrics too--or just more undiscernable. Same tempo as Acrobat. Bono half-rapping, half-singing, but not sounding ridiculous and displaced—the song sounds like it calls for that sort of angry burst of words. Nice little groove in the middle around 2:34. Nice mash of Edge and Bono sharing lead vocals in the chorus. Surprising little Edge solo thrown in building up behind the vocals that you can really hear at 2:58. Of the four clips, this sounds the most like U2’s signature sound, in my opinion—but still the evolution in sound is evident.

    3. Sexy Boots:
1:02 and 2:10, right before the "sexy boots" line: "...how beautiful you arrrrre"

Sounds as if Achtung Baby and Pop had a lovechild, with a little dash of Vertigo thrown in. Dirty, sexy, vibe-y, groovy, driving, very solid. Bono purposely reaching for some high notes without hitting the falsetto—lusty, longing, teasing. I hear Lady With the Spinning Head as part of the groove—you feel like you’re spinning in circles. The key changes that build up right before the chorus in particular are something that really doesn’t sound like anything U2’s done before--a really sweet surprise. I’m guessing this is the song that has the Zeppelin and Hendrix influences that Bono mentioned before. I can’t hear the lyric well enough to tell if it actually is “sexy boots”—whatever it is, it gets repeated and thrown around a lot in the song. It’s sort of rapped, not sung, by Bono. “Sexy boot, boots, boots.” The song ends abruptly, then builds up a little bit for some gorgeous leftover atmospherics—very, very much like the end of The Unforgettable Fire (the song).

    4. Only Love:
Not a ballad, not a rocker. Mid-tempo, atmospheric—made me think of Bad in terms of being anthemic and powerful. Builds and rises. Reminds me of Mercy in terms of tempo. Builds to a powerful mid-section that tapers off and Edge does some gorgeous sliding guitar work. Makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the ocean with the sun setting, or rising, right in front of you. Reminds me a little bit of Promenade. “Only love” keeps repeating. No real discernable chorus, just like Bad. Nice high notes by Bono without going into the falsetto. It's a shame the end of it was cut off, because it sounds like the ending could be really climactic. This song really sounds like something they've been working towards it being something "great," i.e. another Bad or Streets. I wonder if this is Moment of Surrender.

The bass stands out in every clip. Either it’s just Bono’s home stereo system, or Adam is really prominent on this album. Much more textured and layered than Bomb. I don’t hear any traces of Window in the Skies-esque leftovers.

    My favorites, in order: 3, 4, 2, 1.

    Thanks Yeah for uploading.

true but it's more evolution than evolution. I know it's early days and these are low quality clips but it would appear to me that the 3 album formula continues. It can still be an excellent album though but their best?

    Amen.

AllbecauseofU2, you are a poet and you just utterly made my day!

God, I'm starting to get excited now! THE perfect combination; AB & POP!

I tortured my ears again to see what you mean. I can't find any Achtung Baby or major Pop influences, but what I hear is a lot of "Fast Cars" mixed with "Whole lotta love", "I'm gonna DJ" and Bono's style of singing "Rocking in the free world"... the riff sounds a lot like HMTMKMKM.

That one is my favourite, too. The others don't sound very promising to me. Usual 200x-U2. If you liked ATYCLB and the bomb, you'll like these, too. If not, well....
My major concern is that on all tracks Bono seems to use his head voice a lot, something I already disliked on the bomb.
BUT: Sounds like there's just guitar, bass, drums. No piano, bells, strings,... I hope they keep that.

Oh... and IF these are the final versions of album tracks, that is...

Both Bono and Adam went on record saying Mercy would be on the album.
    Both on Video too
  9. What of the original 06' beach clips, does anyone think one of them can make it in?

I definitely heard Whole Lotta Love and a hint of REM's new material in there.
