  1. Hm, so taping the show was wrong but listening to the tape now is okay?

    Also, in spite of what people are saying, there is no clear taping policy by the band. There is no official statement by the band. They kind of have a blind eye policy like most other bands.

    Also, I have no problems with a taper selling some of his recordings to make up for his expenses. U2rmw has sold shows in the past, that's true. He has also brought in circulation some of the best Pro-Shots around (and paid 1000$ for each) and is probably the best amateur filmer around. He has filmed and shared freely the best videos of the last tours and I don't mind him selling a show for $10 here and there.

    i didnt think he was being mean really. Dry and sarcastic maybe but so would i be if i was subjected to a search in front of so many people. And on the selling front it is fairly common for tapers to sell a few copies of their recording befor trading or torrenting them. They do this to claw back some of the costs for the travel, equipment and tickets so lets not assume hes selling for profit.

    I didn't say taping a show was wrong. I didn't say listening to a show was wrong.

    SELLING shows is wrong. Being a jerk to cops and claiming your 'civil rights' were violated when they in fact knew that you had been taping a show... and you'd been 'caught' to some extent... THAT is wrong of the taper. And that is made worse when it's the one in a million time that U2 ask not to tape. It's a lack of respect by the taper.

    Bono and Edge have both said in interviews that trading and sharing recordings is fine. Selling is not fine. Sounds like a pretty clear policy to me.

    You just stated again, that you think that taping that show was wrong. Didn't you?
  7. As for 'tapers' deserving to get money/make money to cover their ticket or travel costs - I respectfully disagree.

    I go to 5-15 shows per tour. And I don't expect anyone to cover my travel / meal / ticket costs.

    Again, if you want to tape a show and trade or share it, the band have been clear... they are fine with that. But to sell shows, they are not happy with that. And to sell shows and then claim the money is to recover costs? That is questionable.

    There is no official policy. That's why one has to stealth tape.


  9. In the case of the dress rehearsal... they didn't want the details of the tour out. So it was going against their will to have taped. And their reason was that they didn't want the details of the tour to get out.

    Being that the tour has been over for 1.5 years, it is less of an issue that it is out or available now. Although it shouldn't have been taped when it was taped.

    ...I think that the band would agree. And I think that now that the tour is over, they might be less annoyed with it.

    How do I know this? I've had this conversation with Bono in San Jose and the rehearsal was an example that he brought up.

    are you recording, converting and uploading these gigs though. You went to those shows for your personal enjoyment. This guy goes specifically to record the shows to share them with us. True I wouldnt pay for a recording but i dont disagree with recovering costs.

    I've talked to Bono about picture and taping shows. I've talked to Edge and Larry about it too. All have said what I have said here: trading and sharing is fine - selling isn't.

    But they are selling and recovering more than costs... at 30.00+ per audio at the various swap meets I've seen bootlegs sold at... and on ebay.

    It's convenient to say that they are 'recovering costs' but they are MORE than recovering costs, in many cases.

    And those that are taping and sharing and uploading here and not charging... are in line with they bands views on taping shows.
