  1. I guess the Americans prefer JT over AB. What's not to like on AB anyway? Unless you dislike the Euro sound.

    But who would say October over AB?. There has to be some albums that are objectively better than others.
    I'm not a big fan of the 'everybody is correct' mentality.

    And do the Americans generally prefer JT over AB/Zooropa/Pop? Wasn't there was some controversy among mainly US fans when AB was released.



  6. Im sure theres people out there who prefer October to Achtung. They arent wrong. They simply might have an emotional connection to a certain song, it might have been the first U2 album they heard etc. Its not an argument, just preference.


  7. gotta second that. really love all the tracks on JT except 'mothers', that one's obviously the weakest compared to the rest of the songs imo.
  8. I have never heard a weak song on The Joshua Tree. Trip Through Your Wires, Mothers of the Disappeared - truly amazing. Achtung Baby, on the other has a few songs which I honestly can't stand. Probably the songs I don't like on it others would say they're classic.

    Then again, October is a damn fine album to me. I like it a lot.

    As mentioned, I've made a disc in the order suggested on the Tiede.com site. Luminous Times AND Walk to the Water DO WORK.

    Would they work in lieu of TTYW or another song, maybe not. But in addition to - set up like that site suggest - a double album - it makes sense.

    Bono has said that With Or WIthout You doesn't make sense without Spanish Eyes. And I think he's right.

    The released single album is great. And if it had to be a single, I think the picked the right songs and right 'types' of songs to make a great album. BUT if it were to be expanded... The Restoring the Joshua Tree site tracklisting works very well and makes good sense.

    Which songs can't you stand on AB?


    I think JT is an album that is greater than the sum of its parts, ie songs such as WOWY, WTSHNN, ISHFWILF are all U2 signature songs and have been amazingly successful and popular.

    In this respect the songs on AB (besides One), perhaps do not reach the same heights as these three. So that is why I think many prefer JT to AB,( not including those who dislike the whole Euro sound.)

    JT would have been a better record if they substituted some of the B-sides instead of the weaker songs. And all the stuff about not fitting in, Bono himself said that WOWY doesn't make sense without Luminous Times and Walk to the Water.

    As good as JT is however, songs such as TTYW are a bit weak compared to the rest of the album

    In this respect AB is better, as it has no real songs that most people (who like the album) dislike or are indifferent to, and even the less popular songs on the album, are fantastic live (eg TTTYAATW).

    Does anyone agree with me?


    BTW according to the 2007 @U2 fan survey AB is 2x as popular as The Joshua Tree.

    Also from the same survey apparently there are also some people who think Bono is a better musician than Adam.

    So as you can see some people are clearly wrong.

    It's like if I have a Corolla or something, and my friend has a Ferrari, and I think my Corolla is the fastest car in the world, so I challenge him to a race.
    I don't think any amount of wishful thinking is going to let me win...

    And not everything U2 writes is gold guys, no one is that good.



  11. Mate, herein lies the issue here. There are plenty of people who believe that there are no weak songs on the album - certainly none worthy of being bumped for any B-sides. As Gerard said before, it's about preference. There are no rights or wrongs here. The old adage - why mess with something if it ain't broke (or something like that)

    I quite like the JT as it is actually, but wouldn't mind LT on there instead of either TTYW or MOTD.
    As I listen to LT more than TTYW, but since you all like TTYW so much i shall listen to it again today and redetermine whether i like it or not.
