I'm thinking of moving pretty quickly, actually. Once I finish my disability here in the state of CA, not much keeping me here (except if the weather stays nice!). I'm thinking mid to late October? So quick! I haven't officially filled any grad school applications out yet, still trying to figure out where to go. I'm also intimidated by the GRE. The one school that I'd most like to go to doesn't require it, but I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to take it anyway, just in case? I don't know...what do you think?

Well, I told you I didn't have to take the GRE and yeah, it would have intimidated the heck outta me too (especially the math - I'm a walking stereotype). But as long as you've got the time, you can get one of them there study books, like you probably had for the SAT. I used one of those for a state test I had to take last year and it was pretty good. I'm sure there are also study guides online.

But I wouldn't take it if you want to go to that program and think you can get in - why stress yourself out?

Do you still have friends in OR? You used to live there, right?

And, no I won't hate you for hating cats. I used to hate them too but Mr.Z was/is a cat person and I'm too lazy to take care of a dog.
  3. Wanna know a little secret? I never took the SAT or the ACT. I went to community college before transferring to a private school in the midwest, so I never had to. Lucky me!

I don't know how hard it will be to get into the school I want to...that's the only reason why I would take the GRE....not knowing if I'll get in. I would think so, though...I mean, how hard is it to get into a state school? I suppose it's a little tougher at the masters level, but I wouldn't think they'd be turning qualified people away.

And yes, I do have friends in Oregon still. And family. My brother and sister-in-law live there, and I'd live with them for a while until I got a job. Plus, that'll save me $$ because I still have to pay off the rest of my lease down here in CA.
  4. Yay for staying with family and saving money!! Whenever we vacation in Laguna, we spend most of the time with family so's not to have to pay for hotels.

Never took the SAT *jawdrop* ??? That's okay. I wish I hadn't. My scores were laughable. I don't know what my problem was. I really should've retaken it.

So, Oregon State? Ducks? (Am I totally making this up, they are the ducks, right?)
  5. Well, it's the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers, but I'm looking at Portland State, since both those other schools are about 2 hours south of Portland. I'll be a Viking!

UGH! My sleep schedule is so messed up from being sick. I'd come home and nap mid-day and then take meds and sleep all night. I think I got too much sleep. I woke up at 5:30 this morning for no good reason.

yeah, i hate that. Actually, i haven't been sleeping well either. I don't know what it is....well, other than the major spinal-cord injury! my muscles all ache and I toss and turn. Did you miss any school while you were sick?
  8. No, I almost took yesterday off but it's such a pain to put together a lesson plan for the sub and all so i just sucked it up.

Yeah, that whole spinal cord injury makes me just sound whiney about a sinus infection. So you still have pain associated with it? Do they know if that's gonna last forever or will it eventually heal/scar over/ numb up? My dad had a staph infection in his spine 3 years ago and it still bothers him.

And maybe a little case of 'the bed's too big without a certain someone' as Sting would say, maybe. I know when Mr.Z isn't around I don't sleep as well, hence me being up late on the night he has band practice!

First off....I didn't know Mr. Z had a band! AWESOME!!!! I'm assuming he's the guitar player, since he was Edge for Halloween?

Second, I hope I didn't sound like "yeah, I'm sick of your complaining. At least you have a working spinal cord!" (because I only say that to my girlfriend! ) I'm generally pain-free, although today has kind of sucked. I've had nagging aches for the past 2 months and I thought it was finally behind me since I had about 4 days straight with no pain in that shoulder spot, but today it came back, which is very frustrating. The doctors have never really said what to expect as far as recovery because my condition is so rare. I know of a couple guys who have had it one and two years, and they're not walking yet. Another kid got it about a week before I did, and still can't really move his legs....so, I feel incredibly lucky.
  10. WOW! I didn't know your recovery was THAT dramatic. All the more to be proud of. And let me know if you get sick of talking about it too!

Yeah, Mr.Z is in a band, has been in one band or another, sometimes two at a time, since I've known him. That's how we met actually. My high school boyfriend who I'd broken up with but was still friends with in college, was in a band with him! But he plays drums. He's played bass in other bands and just writes stuff and messes around on guitar. I envy his talent. I can read music but I can't 'play'. It's like being able to say words outloud without really understanding what they mean. But it's cool. I just wish I liked the music this particular band played better.

uh-oh....what do they play? Metal? Punk? Tex-Mex?

Don't worry, I don't get sick of talking about it....only in that it makes me realize how fortunate I am. (not in a "I love me" way.)
  12. Well, a few years back, their style of music was called 'Alt-Country' or 'Americana'. I call it crap.

SonVolt and Wilco are a couple bands who have dabbled in the genre and don't suck. Don't get me wrong, they're great musicians. I just don't dig the sound. I hid it for a really long time but then finally 'fessed up. He understands and I try to make a gig once a year, just to, you know, be supportive and whatnot. And keep the groupies in check!!!
