  2. Isn't that line about unity, ie. we have our differences but we can still be united.
    Or we can be 'one' without being the 'same'. I fail to see how it is selfish.
    It's theme of bittersweet love and troubled relationships is shared with With or Without You, Ultraviolet, All I Want Is You, Acrobat etc.

    Isn't One like the most popular U2 song ever, among fans, critics and the general public alike (alongside WOWY anyway). Didn't it come first in Q magazine poll for best song ever?

    Does anyone here like One? Or is U2start the home of some kind of radical offshoot of the U2 fan community, the next thing will be October for best album ever.

    PS: I listened to TTYW, I must have gotten it confused (musically) with Wire or some song from R&H. It isn't that bad, It's better Mothers of the Disappeared and possibly Red Hill/One Tree Hill.
  3. Vanquish, don't misunderstand the opinions. They are just saying that One is NOT the gem that everyones claims... If someone knows 10 songs and one of them is WOWY or One probably he will say "WOWY (or One) is the BEST song of U2 and the best song of the world", when he hasn't heard Ultraviolet, Bad, Streets or Walk On. Got me? Nobody really dislikes One, we only know how to appreciate it, just fairly. It's a great song, but it's not the best.

    No way, no way Trip can be better than One Tree Hill, nor Mothers, nor Red Hill Mining Town! It's just a folk/country song. Great, as the whole Joshua album, but just a folk song. For me it's the "worst" song (Im not saying it's bad at all, just the "less good") of the album. Together with Exit, which live rocks, but album...

    We like what we want to like. It doesn't have to be obscure or strange. I like One. Many people here probably like One. Most people here I imagine think Streets is one of their best, so no we are not radical, but each one of us is unique in their tastes. The only common ideal we have is U2. Ok? Look at my profile and you will see my top 10 are pretty well known songs.

    If I remember, Pop was panned by the critics, fans and general public alike.

    Look at that - their most innovative record to date. I'm also sure those critics think Beautiful Day and Vertigo are one of U2's greatest efforts to date. Aussie, I had a look at your profile as well - those wouldn't be many well-known songs there. I wouldn't say A Sort of Homecoming or Mofo would be well-known by a lot of people outside of the U2 fan community. Speaking of which, I must actually complete my profile!

    In regards to One yet again, it is a good song but I guess I do approach it differently to others.

    I like Pop, I like Mofo, IFGWSHA, Staring at the Sun, Discotheque, Do you feel Loved, Wake up dead man, please etc. I HATE Miami though

    The problem with Pop, is that is is unfinished, ie many of the tracks are diamonds in the rough, and need polishing to truly shine. U2 should rerecord this album, and the remixes on Best of 1990-2000 don't count, does anyone like the staring at the sun remix, however i can't decide between the original and remixed Discotheque.

    And it wasn't universally panned, RS seemed to like it.

    Anyway I guess I don't mind if people dislike One, (though I find it very strange). My issue is them claiming they dislike it because the lyrics seem selfish, can someone please explain this, I do not understand.
