  1. So Lovetown was all heartland and americana, ZooTV was sensory-overload and sugary commercialism meets confusing techno babble (babel?) and Elevation was about keeping it close and personal. I know its difficult to guess, what with not hearing the album (then again, since when do internet bloggers and forum fillers ever bring the 'educated' into 'educated guesses' anyway...), what kind of theme would you like to see U2 tackle for the next tour? Bigger and more gimmicky? Upclose and personal? Bono swinging around a cable like tarzan with plastic butterfly wings? Edge NOT wearing a skullcap?

    Ideas?

  7. Well, that NEVER happened. Even the Boy and the October tour had its themes. Every REM or Beatles or Rolling Stones tour has its theme too. It's impossible to slpit the theme apart, since tours use to support an album, and every album has a theme, a central idea.

    Agreed. How boring and generic would it be to just watch a collection of songs being played out? Its the experience as a whole with these crazy U2 shows, that set them apart. Its a journey. Please -> Streets in Popmart, Love and Peace ->Bullet the Blue Sky/Bloody Sunday, Macphisto and BB King!

    I get that I was about as clear as mud when I opened this topic as it's pretty obvious that no theme can be judged without the material but what I meant was ideas to be passed around, a kind of collective creative brainstorm. What would you like to see?

    For me, I'm tired of the band trying to connect to the audience: they're music accomplishes that easily, there's no wall between us and them when we're all singing along to Pride, you know? I want them to take us WITH them as opposed to TO them and rocket off somewhere in the big ZooTV style. Big High Definition displays and laser lights, Muse style? How about a moving stage? How about bringing back the floorlit acoustic b-stage halfway through a bombastic flash show?

    Also, I'd like Bono to drop a bit of the world zealot. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of the guy and agree with everything he does as far as charity and sacrifice and political views. And passing along a message in the show before launching into an emotional song is enough to get in my pants*. But maybe cut the speeches, let the music do the talking (singing).

    And how about characters??? I loved the Mirrorball Man and the Fly. Or Bono and Edge's 'battle' during UTEOTW. More theatrics, definitely!

  10. I actually love that idea. Although I think we're in the minority with this. They need to get back to the basic rock concert. I felt like the VT was too "commercial"

    ever seen a Springsteen concert? No theme, no frills, just 3 hours of pure rock, 30 songs in a row. It wouldbe really innovative for our boys to play such a show

    That would be great, but just doesn't fit with U2 in my opinion.
