  4. Thanks for all these shows. Munich upgrade doesn't fully download though as I get error message after Clocks and won't download rest of show. Anyone else have this problem?

    and some tapers tend to be picky.....sure, its their recording, but of coldplay's material

    and looks like some editing is in order

    How is it picky that some people just want one little wish respected for their work?

    Anyway, some of the best tapers already gave up recording. The majority of recordings from this tour didn't get shared online because tapers see how their wishes get disrespected. Spreading this recording in lossy format doesn't help the situation.

    Tapers get respect. It's called lossless hubs. I myself have been apart of such hubs, so before you say I'm not helping the situation, think before you say something. It's immoral.

    Tapers keep shows to themselves too. These tapers either are ignorant or the tape just doesn't pass the person's standards. Tapers can be ignorant by hiding shows and make them 'rare'. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why hide something away when the rest of a certain community or fan base wants to hear it? I say let the world hear it, let people get to enjoy beautiful music. Putting something in a vault is like caging a mockingbird. It's something that just can't be done.

    I have a recording that I can't share. The Who's Live at Leeds 2? First three songs. Incendently I recorded them in mp3, so they sound alright, but not superb. Can I share them? I can, but not on lossless sites. And it sucks. So I've been thinking, and I'll share it with the U2start community. The reason it's been tucked away? Finding youtube videos for the rest of the gig so it can be a better bootleg, instead of just 3 songs. Have I had the time? Not really, since I'm in high scool. Time is valuable, especially with college prep stuff.

    Also, U2start has 1000 bootlegs. You need to tell me that in order for the shows to be shared they would have to be kept in lossless? So I guess you could be saying U2start aren't following tapers rules? Remy and co. has created a beautiful site, where people can get shows quick, and enjoy them. Some of the members here are tapers, so they want to help the site as much as possible. We shouldn't have to follow tapers rules and let the public's time be lost too. I have fairly fast internet, and it takes me an hour to download 500 MB worth of material. Shows here could range from 500 MB to 2 GB in lossless, depending on the length of the show. Taking 3 hours to download a show is ridiculous, especially since it can be done in 5-10 minutes.

    I put up that recording for the U2start community. Second, this shouldn't be a big deal since it's Coldplay material on a U2 site.

  10. You disrespect this particular taper's wish by spreading that recording in lossy format. Period.

    Tapers can do with their recording what they want. Keep it rare, spread it, suck it, sleep with it. I can't see why they should be obliged to share what they've recorded.

BUT: In the last years, that lossless vs lossy thing was a little different because few people had a broadband connection and could download lossless files. Nowadays 90% of the people on music sites have broadband, so it's no big deal to keep the shows lossless and respect taper's wishes. We saw the results of that disrespectful behaviour during the Vertigo tour, it will be worse with the next tour.

    It's hard to respect a tapers wish if it doesn't satisfy the community. What's wrong with 192 kbps anyway? It's the accepted standard quality now. Plus, I don't own an iPod with lossless compatability. I don't think anyone does.

    Sure they can do what they want. The ones who hoard shows are called assholes. In my live at Leeds 2 case it's because my project isn't finished yet.

    So I suppose you would like to help uploading lossless u2 bootlegs to u2start? Problem is, some of the lossless sources are different from their mp3 counterparts. 2001-06-09 is a perfect example. The mp3 has nearly perfect sound, but at 128 kbps, which scared off some folks. The lossless has audible people screaming aka some moron talking during the fly. That's not found on the mp3. Hopefully the version I grabbed is still there.

    Also, regards to the 90%, where did this info come from, I'd really like to know. And what happened with the vertigo tour? Enlighten me.

    No, but it allows me to show what guidelines I go by:

    Allow mp3 encoding, the lowest being 192 kbps. It's standard quality at the moment. Any larger is ballooning the file size. Technology isn't advanced enough for the common person to have lossless support on a portable music device.

    Sharing is caring...if ya don't share, that's not fair.

    Overall, the word lossless should be used carefully right now. Until technology can provide lossless support with portable music players, it's 192 Kbps and above or bust.
  12. A 192 k mp3 is inferior to a lossless flac. That's what is wrong with it. The taper demanded that this recording isn't spread in lossy format, that's what is wrong with it. If you want to convert the files to mp3 for your own use, no one has a problem with that.

    The ones who "hoard" recordings have every right to do so. That doesn't make them a bigger asshole than you or me.

    No, I'm not gonna help uploading lossless boots here unless there is a special request I could fulfil . I've done my part in sharing over the years + I'm more interested in videos these days. To your example: If there is a difference between the lossy and the lossless version of that said gig, it's just a matter of replacing the lossless version with the original lossless file the 128k mp3s were taken from. No big deal.
    But these are bootlegs from the past where "the damage is done" anyway. My main concern is new boots that surface like the Bologna one.

    These 90% come from my own perception. No scientific source or anything. It's just what I observed. What happened to the Vertigo tour and happens to Coldplays Viva tour right now is that some of the best recordings (and many standard ones) don't make it to the public because taper's wishes aren't respected.

    I personally don't have a major problem with lossy files - but obviously the taper here has, that's where I come from. And again, for personal use, do with the files what you want.

    If you share the files, share them in the best quality. If you share inferior files, that's not fair.
