  2. My dad got this iPod Nano 4GB after ordering a new kitchen, and he wants me to put some music on it. I downloaded iTunes, and really....this program is a load of shit. Which complete disaster has developed this piece of crap? Unbelievable...Glad I never bought an iPod myself.

  4. I have to agree. Like Mac or not, but iTunes is simplicity itself. Most user-friendly program I've ever used. It's what led me to the mac door in the first place

    Sorry to inform you but it is IMPOSABLE to unload music or files from the ipod unless it was set to "file transport mode". When you plug your ipod in you WILL loose ALL of your files, you need to back up the ones on your old computer first and then bring them over to the new one.

    Reason: your ipod needs the exact files to be uploaded, the only solution is buying a new ipod and starting over and keeping your current one and NEVER putting it in a computer again. thats of coarse if you can't back up your old computer.

    Haha, and I've seen the test they give you. But buying a new one? Put it this way, iPods have cost me enough over the last couple of years.



    For Windows, use Foobar with foo_dop from the mini to the 6G classic. for iPod touch / iPhone, use MediaMonkey, as I discovered.

    For Mac, use Senuti - it's free, last time I looked.

    For Linux and Ubuntu, use YamiPod or Amarok.


    I also know why iTunes is so dead slow on Windows. Disabling and uninstalling Bonjour speeds it up. Bonjour is a network service and shares your music, video, podcasts etc...and updates song data to the network, so someone can see how many times you've watched a video etc and downloads album artwork for AppleTV, thumbnails in each folder etc. iTunes is a hell of a lot faster now and actually manageable.

    But finding that out was a hell of a job. Plus this new Genius thing slows it down badly, so I've disabled that in iTunes too.

    When Paolom mentions backing up files from iTunes, he means iTunes purchases, because you can't backup CD and DVD rips from your own collection.

    Too true Harry.

    It's bollocks that you need to create a folder with the pics you want on your iPod. Wit the Zen, it's just copy and paste.

    do you mean actual photos (rather than album art)? The flaw is likely because iTunes is designed to work with iPhoto. With that I just picks up the photos from any album you have set up; if you add photos in iPhoto, it will automatically update next time you sync. Simple.

    The problem here is Windows. Not iTunes

    I think under the iPod section, you can click on Photos, choose a folder and press Sync; at least that's the way iTunes 8 works, if I remember. Artwork goes in a separate folder and file set, you don't have to worry about maintaining or creating new folders for that.

    Is there any way, without wiping the current photos off your iPod, to add new photos? When I go to add a photo or four, it asks me if I'd like to wipe the existing photos off the iPod and replace with new ones. Surely I can add photos from another folder (like Downloads) and keep the existing ones. Keep in mind this is a touch model, not a classic or other kind.

    As a note of interest, I finally got around to trying iTunes on a Mac. It works...shock horror.
