How can the layman (us) get this? The Line 6 Verbzilla set to the 'Octo' setting is a cheap and effective way to achieve this tone.

Digitech IPS 33b is a nice rack harmonizer that works well for this tone.

    Edge uses an Eventide harmonizer.

  3. Hm... I think I'll have to try one of those Verbzillas... I can think of quite a few song parts in our setlist that could benefit from it. GAS GAS GAS

Fernandes Retro Rocket w/sustainer pick-up in the neck position.

The sustainer pickup works similar to the original 'infinite guitar' that Michael Brooks developed.

Edge used his original infinite guitar for The Joshua Tree through Zoo TV tour.

By Zooropa, as seen on the Sydney DVD, he began using a Les Paul with an E-bow for With Or Without You.

Since Popmart Edge has used various Fernandes (brand) guitars with Sustainer pickups.
Popmart "Decade Elite" w/sustainer. He had on sea foam and one orange.
Elevation "Native Pro" w/sustainer. Metallic green finish.
Vertigo Tour. Retro Rocket w/sustainer. Blackfinish, which ISN"T a stock colour for the Retro Rocket.
  5. FERNANDES DECADE ELITE w/sustainer (SEAFOAM) - Use: Popmart. With Or Without You, Discotheque & If You Wear That Velvet Dress.

FERNANDES DECADE ELITE w/sustainer (Orange) - Use: Popmart. With Or Without You, Discotheque & If You Wear That Velvet Dress. Elevation tour: Discotheque & Staring At The Sun

FERNANDES NATIVE PRO w/sustainer (Metallic Green) - Use: Elevation tour: With Or Without You.

FERNANDES RETRO ROCKET w/sustainer (Black) - Use: Vertigo tour: With Or Without You.

  6. Man I love the sound and the look of those decades. I love the tone he got for discotheque on that tour, and how versitile it was going from a song like Disco to WOWY. I'll have to look into one of those for a future purchace

EDIT: Do they not make the decade anymore? I might just get a crappy guitar and put in the sustainer kit. Might be more reasonable.
  7. I bought a '97 Native off eBay about a year ago. Seller neglected to mention that he was a heavy smoker , that the guitar wouldn't operate unless there was a 9V battery connected to the sustainer and that the bridge is unstable to the point that no string on the guitar ever stays in tune. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

To my knowledge most guitar shops don't carry them. I'd check one out IN A STORE before buying one from the internet...or at least make sure the seller is recommended to avoid making the mistake I did. In this economy I could really use that $300 now.......
  8. Edge's "Native" is a Native Pro. But his was heavily customized.

Natives come with 2 humbuckers. Edge had the regular humbuckers swapped out for two Duncan Hot Rails (Bridge and Mid positions) and the Sustainer Pickup in the bridge. A new pearl pickguard was needed to accomodate the new pickup setup and so cut and installed.

Also, the Native headstock has three tuners on top and three on bottom; like a Les Paul. Edge had the neck swapped out to a Decade style / 6 tuners on top neck/headstock - similar to a strat setup.

So if you want a Native Pro because EDGE used one, you will have to make a number of cusomizations.

His Decade Elites were mostly stock, except the sea foam wasn't custom for the Decade model. Decade Elite's are no longer made - haven't been for 8+ years.

You can get a stock Retro Rocket and it will be EXACTLY like Edge's except NOT black, as black is not a stock colour for the Retro Rocket.

How do I know this? I spoke with the artist rep from Fernades and he gave me the 411.

I tried a Verbzilla in the store. I really liked the effect, but in the end I didn't buy it. I can't accept the fact that these are much more expensive here in Europe, they only cost half as much in the USA (109USD compared to 159EUR). But US dealers don't send them to Europe... not even Amazon.com does.

I think I'm gonna order the Behringer Verbzilla Clone (RV600 Reverb Machine) instead. It's got some good reviews and it only costs 49EUR.
