    Popmart: Live from Mexico City was one of the first titles slated for release in the DVD format in 1997/98, and previews for it appeared on PolyGram DVDs of the time. But the PolyGram release was quietly canceled, leaving the DVD to languish until its scheduled re-release in September 2007, under the Island Records label. The DVD will be released in a one- and two-disc edition, similar to the DVD release of fellow U2 VHS to DVD release Zoo TV: Live from Sydney. Both editions will feature the concert in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, remixed with Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, and PCM Stereo audio.[1]

    So it was going to be on DVD back in the day.

    Described as a 'sci-fi disco supermarket', the PopMart Tour opened in its 'spiritual home', Las Vegas, on 25th April 1997. 'PopMart Live from Mexico City' was filmed at the Foro Sol Autodromo in Mexico City in December that year and directed by David Mallet. Filmed on analogue video - and originally released on video in 1998 - for its DVD debut it has been transferred to a digital format with re-graded pictures, remastered audio and mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound.

    The DVD will come in a Standard 1-disc format, featuring the concert, and a Special Limited Edition 2-disc format, the 2nd bonus disc containing unreleased live audio and video material, including documentaries, a PopMart tour visuals montage, and DVD-ROM extras.

    It's from Mexico but it's possible they used other camera footage known from this show. As they did with ZooTV, ZooTV DVD is different than the VHS, they used the broadcast footage instead.

    Strange thing the trailer isn't 4:3 and some footage is indeed from different camera angles. I'm curious what the final result will be!
  8. I honestly couldn't see an awful lot because it was really bad quality. But from what I saw it looks alright, possibly different camera angles have been used - maybe that's why it took so long from 1997/98 when it WAS meant to be on DVD. Oh well at least we have a date - hopefully.

    I'm amazed at how good quality ZooTV actually came out in both picture and audio - from the broadcast that I saw of the Adelaide show and then Sydney that was absolutely terrible. Finally saw my first POPmart show the other week from Edmonton. That was very cool...if it's anything like that I'll be happy, even happier to finally have another great DVD.

    Here's a question. How do you know the different generations of video-to-DVD? Like Gen 1/2/3/4 etc.

    By the way, I know the existance of an "alternate" Mexico Proshot, which features all this "changed" footage you can see on the trailer. And it's UNCUT.

    We can NOT know them, it has to be listed on the lineage of the bootleg.

    If lineage is not included, we can only suppose the gen, not knowing it with a 100% accuracy.
